Wickliffe Family Update
September 27, 2024 Notes and News
Hello, Families!
This past Wednesday, we had our annual Literacy Night. For those who couldn’t attend, I’m happy to share the Literacy Night Presentation with you. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions specific to their literacy block.
As a reminder, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee meeting will take place this Sunday at 3 PM via Zoom.
Next week, we have several exciting events happening! On Wednesday, we’ll be celebrating National Custodian Day to honor the hard work of our custodial team. Thursday is our Multilingual Parent Information Night, and we’ll end the week with our Fun Run, Walk & Roll Fundraiser on Friday!
Speaking of the Fun Run, we’re aiming to raise $15,000 and currently have about $600. Please consider donating to this PTO fundraiser, as it supports PTO events such as Teacher Grants, Staff Appreciation, Fall Fest, and much much more! . You can donate today by clicking here. Let's work together to reach our goal!
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend—it looks like we’ll be getting some much-needed rain.
Warm regards,
Angela

UPDATED ~ Fun Run, Rock or Roll is back! Friday
Hi Wickliffe Families,
We have our 4th annual Fun Run, Walk, or Roll on Friday, Oct. 4th. The students are super excited to participate this year and our goal is to raise at least $15,000 for the PTO.
All of the money will go towards PTO events such as Teacher Grants, Staff Appreciation, Fall Fest, and much much more!
Right now, we have ONLY raised $550.00. So we need a BIG push this weekend and leading up to the event from all of you!
Here is how you and your student can help:
1. Print off the Collection form attached and go door to door for donations.
2. Call grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family members for a donation.
3. Or if easier, just donate at least $25.00 per child and this will help make our goal!
Here is how you donate:

Check or Cash - There is a box in the main office to collect donations.
We appreciate all of your help!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Safety
All adults entering the building must use the main entrance on Wickliffe Road and sign in at the Kiosk to receive a visitor badge. Please remember to bring your driver’s license or digital pass for sign-in.
- No pick-up or drop-off is allowed in either parking lot. Please use designated areas to ensure student safety. Students should also not be walking or biking through the parking lot.
Students should not ride bikes on school property. They must walk their bikes on the sidewalk until they reach the street. Additionally, no students should be crossing the street on Eastcleft during drop-off or pick-up times.
Attendance
- If your child will be absent from school for any reason—whether it’s an all-day illness, a personal day, or a partial day for appointments—please email wickliffeattendance@uaschools.org and include the reason for the absence. Be sure to copy your child’s teacher as well. If you have multiple children, you can send one email with the necessary details for each.
- It’s important to use the attendance email because if Mrs. Morley is unavailable, a substitute can access the attendance information, whereas they cannot check her personal email
- .District Attendance Policy
- Please provide a medical excuse for any visit to a doctor, dentist, therapist, or similar appointment that occurs during school hours. You can either drop it off at the office or email it to the attendance address.
- Planned Absence Form - Forms should be completed 10 school days in advance of the first date of the planned absence whenever possible. Otherwise, the absence may be unexcused.

Staff Appreciation
The Staff Appreciation Committee is on its way to making our wonderful Wickliffe staff feel appreciated and loved throughout the year and we need your help to make that happen!
Here are some ways we will be showing our appreciation for our staff this school year:
- Monthly Coffee Cart - We’ll continue to work alongside students from the Learning Center to provide coffee and treats to our staff on the first Wednesday of every month.
- Classroom Lounge Takeover - Thank you for helping to make this a success last year! We will continue to rotate classrooms to provide snacks and drinks to the staff. Be on the lookout for your Classroom Connections Team Leader about donations or snacks for the staff each week.
- Recess duty - We will expand this effort to include a few times over the year when our staff is particularly busy. Watch for a sign-up sheet to cover these shifts!
- Providing lunch and/or snacksduring the week(s) of parent/teacher conferences in October and March.
Our small and mighty committee will also be providing lunch and snacks on certain days throughout the year for our staff, and we are planning for Staff Appreciation Week in May.

District Updates
UPDATES FROM THE TEACHING AND LEARNING DEPARTMENT
Elementary Progress Reports
Elementary Principals, please share the following with your staff and then include in an upcoming parent update:
Because the elementary school years are so critical to a student’s academic and personal growth, our teachers will be increasing the amount of communication regarding each student’s achievement this year.
In previous school years, elementary students have received Progress Reports three times a year, at the end of each trimester. There have also been conference opportunities for families in the fall and the spring.
Beginning this school year, teachers will provide Progress Reports in January and June. In the fall and the spring, they will provide Interim Reports for each student. Teachers will share each student’s fall Interim Report with families during conferences on October 8th-9th, 2024. While spring conferences are optional for families, all students will receive another interim report at that time. Interim and Progress Reports will be accessible to families in PowerSchool.
Our goal is to increase meaningful conversations between teachers and families regarding each student’s individual achievement, growth and learning needs. We are excited to launch this expanded reporting system this year and look forward to collaborating with you!
UPDATES FROM CHIEF EXCELLENCE AND ENGAGEMENT OFFICER
Family Support - Food Resource
For a second year, the district is partnering with the Tri-Village Packers (TVP), a group of community volunteers who work to reduce food insecurity in Upper Arlington. Families with UA students can register throughout October and early November to receive grocery items that supplement their pantries during the upcoming Thanksgiving break. This is not a Thanksgiving meal but support to offset food insecurity by providing breakfast and lunch items during the extended break from school.
Last year, TVP provided food for more than 90 students during Thanksgiving break, and we believe there will be a greater need this year.
Please review and share this flyer and registration form weekly through November 1st. In the coming weeks, forms and flyers will be shared in additional channels and languages. Please reach out to Kristyn Anderson at kmanderson@uaschools.org if you have any questions or need support in a particular situation related to this program.
ODEW Attendance Awareness Month Door Decorating Contest
Celebrate Attendance Awareness Month with the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network by participating in a decorating contest. Students and teachers are encouraged to decorate classroom spaces or bulletin boards showing support for attendance every day. Share a picture on social media using hashtag #StayInTheGame to show why attendance matters to you. Participants will be entered to win a prize from the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network. Check out the spirit week flyer for each week’s activity. For more information or questions, contact Patrick Hickman at attendance@education.ohio.gov.
