The GLOBE Academy will be closed on Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27, due to the severe weather and in line with DeKalb County School District's announcement on 09/25. After-school and athletic events are also cancelled. GLOBE will provide further updates on Thursday regarding re-opening. Thank you for your support and understanding.
International Festival
Thank you to everyone who attended the International Festival on Saturday, September 21. Fine weather made for a perfect day! Thank you to GLOBE's PTCC and all of the volunteers who made this event such a success. We have included some images from the event, below.

Visit from French Delegacy
Last week we received a visit from members of the French Delegacy who took a tour of our Lower Campus and met with students. Pictured left to right, Dr. Mark Linsky, Program Specialist for World Languages and Global / Work Initiatives at the Georgia Department of Education, Ms. Sandra Daniel, Director of Language Program at The GLOBE Academy, Ms. Chinez Ziadi, International Affairs Nancy Metz Academy, and Ms. Meryem Sekkate, Program Officer of Educational Affairs with the French Embassy.
Decatur Book Festival
A local event coming up that may be of interest is the Decatur Book Festival. With a plethora of children's author programming, and family-friendly fun and educational activities, including a science expo at the Task Force for Global Health, the Decatur Book Festival returns on October 4-5. Check out their website for further details.
Campus Notes
Our Spanish Language Support Assistants (LSA) at LC and UC have arrived!
LSAs provide additional support to students in language classes. We are looking for a volunteer to transport them to the Social Security office on October 2. If you are able to help with this, please reach out to Ms. Daniel.
Lower Campus notes
Hispanic Heritage Month is underway at Lower Campus
Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) is here. Hallway and door decorations are looking superb! Families of Spanish track students are invited to attend the HHM performance at 8:30am on Friday, October 11, in the Lower Campus village plaza.
Recess Bags
Ms. Blunt is in need of one more volunteer to help deploy the new recess bags provided by PTCC. Please email her at cblunt@theglobeacademy.net if you’re able to come in to help. She also sends a big “thank you” to the first round of volunteers!
Last chance to apply to be a 3rd grade library assistant
The Library is seeking 3rd graders to help in the library. Any interested 3rd graders should stop by the library to pick up an application. Completed applications will be accepted until Monday, September 30. Ms. Stowe has made a video answering some frequently asked questions about the Library Helper program. To view the video, click here. Any interested students should stop by and pick up a form. Please make sure all questions and fields are filled out, as we are unable to accept incomplete applications.
Upper Campus notes
Upper Campus Scholastic GLOBE Book Fair
Our Upper Campus Scholastic Book Fair continues until Friday. Although the school is now closed due to the severe weather, you can still shop online. Click here for details.
Peace Week - October 28 to November 1
Upper Campus will be celebrating Peace Week next month. If you would like to purchase the 2024 Peace Week T-shirt for your student, please complete the payment via your My Payments Plus portal. All orders are due by October 3. For any assistance purchasing your shirt contact your grade level counselor. Thank you.
Science Fair Leaders Needed
Upper Campus is looking for two or three parent volunteers to run the school science fair as an extracurricular activity. If you are interested in supporting our students in their science fair experiments, please email Ms. Lofstrand, HOS. She will get you all of the information to register students for the event, deadlines for county and state fairs, as well as work with you on a schedule for after school support.
Athletic events
A reminder that students must be accompanied by an adult when attending athletic events either home or away. The adult must stay at the event the entire time the student is attending.

Retakes and class pictures (K–5) were taken yesterday. Check the JostensPix site to view the retakes when they are available (estimated to be the beginning of next week).
Clinic
Please keep in mind that if your child has a fever they cannot return to campus for 24 hours following the resolution of the fever (without the use of fever reducing medications). If a child vomits, they cannot return to class for 24 hours following the last time that they vomited. Please know that if a child that was sent home by a nurse and returns to school the following day, and it has not been 24 hours, arrangements will be made for them to be sent home. This is in alignment with DeKalb County School District guidelines. If you have any questions, please reach out to Nurse Kate at 404-464-7040. Thank you for your partnership as we work to maintain a healthy learning environment.

Our monthly collection of used uniforms was originally scheduled for this Friday. Please look out for information in next week's newsletter for the new date.
Spirit Night at Bell Street Burrito
Come out to the PTCC Spirit Night at Bell Street Burrito on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 4pm to 8pm. Carry-out and pick-up are included in Spirit Night contribution but the payment must be made in person at the restaurant. No online orders are included in the Spirit Night. 20% of the sales brought in by spirit night will be donated back to the school. Families do not need to bring a flyer. Lower Campus Science Fest is Coming
Does your student want to learn about bubbles, bacteria, or blood?
Do they like to make slime? Then, join us for Science Fest on Saturday, October 26, from 10:00am to 12noon in the Village Plaza. Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of hands-on STEM-related exhibits that will spark your child’s imagination and curiosity! Fall Sports Highlights
We are off to a fabulous start in all of our sports, and we are super proud of our athletes! We are reporting on A Teams this week, but our B and C Teams, along with 5th grade Cross Country runners are also doing incredibly well!
A Teams - Fall Sports
Boys Soccer - Defeated Atlanta Classical (4-3)
Girls Volleyball - Defeated Epstein and Sandy Springs MS (2-0) and (2-1) respectively.
Note: B Team is (7-1) this season and doing a fantastic job.
Ultimate - Defeated St. Martin B Team (10-5) and are on a three game winning streak.
Cross Country - Girls finished #2 and Boys finished #4 out of 15 schools last week at Life University.
Note: 5th grade athletes did a fantastic job last week and had three top 10 finishers in the 1 mile race.

Mark your calendars for November 15 as GLOBE Trot is returning!
Planning for GLOBE’s biggest fundraiser of the year has already begun. GLOBE Trot is a school-wide fun run and exercise-focused event where all GLOBE students will run, skip, race, and have fun while promoting healthy bodies and healthy minds. Volunteers are needed to help with planning events for the day, fundraising, and soliciting donations. If you are interested in volunteering and creating a lasting memory for the student body, please reach out to Andrew Dahl.
