Pathway to Biliteracy Award
Niara C. was presented with a Pathway to Biliteracy Award. This award honors Niara's engagement in the pursuit of language skills in two languages, affirms positive attitudes towards multilingualism, and validates the use of multiple languages.
On April 4, 2019, the Governing Board of Trustees adopted Resolution 18-19-06 a Pathway to Biliteracy Recognitions Program. The program recognizes elementary and middle school students who have demonstrated and met defined benchmarks toward proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.

Annual Overnight Field Trips: Science Camps for Fammatre, Farnham & Sartorette
The Governing Board approved the overnight field trips for Fammatre, Farnham, and Sartorette, 5th grade students, to attend an Outdoor Science Camp at Walden West during the 2024-25 school year.

Consent Agenda
The Governing Board voted to accept the consent agenda items. Items listed under the consent agenda motion are considered to be a regular course of procedure and are acted on by the Board of Trustees in one motion.
There is no discussion of these items prior to the Board vote unless a member of the Board, staff, or the public requests specific items be discussed and/or removed from the agenda. It is understood that the administration recommends approval on all consent items. Each item on the consent agenda approved by the Board of Trustees shall be deemed to have been considered in full and adopted as recommended.
Personnel Report
The Governing Board approved the Personnel Report as part of the Consent Agenda.

Property Redevelopment: Exchange and Joint Escrow Agreement
The Governing Board approved the Second Amendment to the Exchange and Joint Escrow Agreement with Silverado San Jose, Inc. On March 17, 2022, the Governing Board approved Resolution 21-22-06: Intent to Exchange Interests in Real Property with Silverado Memory Care. The Second Amendment is to extend the closing of escrow from September 15, 2024, to on or prior to December 31, 2024, due the approval from the City of San Jose and to secure funding.

Property Redevelopment: Purchase and Sale Agreement - Metzler A
The Governing Board approved the Purchase and Sale Agreement with McGuire Capital Group and Bruce Bishop for Real Property Interest. On March 17, 2022, the Governing Board approved Resolution 21-22-06: Intent to Exchange Interests in Real Property with Silverado Memory Care. Silverado will obtain financing from McGuire Capital Group and Bruce Bishop. The agreement will allow Cambrian School District to purchase the Real Property Interest and hold the Promissory Note and Deed of Trust.

Strategic Plan 2024-2027
The Governing Board approved the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan. In the fall of 2023, the Governing Board and staff began developing the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan is a roadmap that helps align all educational partners with a shared vision, mission, and values; promote productive decision-making; and help students reach their full potential and works in conjunction with our Local Control and Accountability Plan.

Support Academic Futures and Educators for Today’s Youth Act or SAFETY Act
The Board discussed Assembly Bill 1955 - Support Academic Futures and Educators for Today’s Youth Act or SAFETY Act and its impacts on the current practices of the Cambrian School District.
The Assembly Bill was signed on July 15, 2024, and will go into effect on January 1, 2025.

Student Services: North West SEPLA Community Advisory Committee Representative
The Governing Board accepted the North West Community Advisory Committees Bylaws and Cambrian's three current representatives. The Cambrian School District is a participating member of the Santa Clara County Office of Education Special Education Local Planning Agency (SELPA) III. On July 1, 2024, the five individual SELPA (I, II, III, IV, and VII) areas merged into one large group, now called Santa Clara North West Special Education Local Plan Area.
The California Education Code Article 7, Sections 56190–56194, mandates the creation of Community Advisory Committees (CACs) to increase community involvement in the Special Education Local Plan Area. CACs serve in an advisory capacity in the development and review of the SELPA Local Plan, annual priorities, parent training and education, and other special education-related activities.
The CAC holds periodic meetings during the year and requires parent representatives to be approved by the Cambrian School District Board of Trustees.
Cambrian has three members: One employee and two parents

○ Kristen Lewis, Parent of a 1st grader with related services

Board Policies and Regulation
One of the roles of the Governing Board is to ensure District Board policies are reviewed, added, removed and kept up to date in order to keep the District legally compliant. The Governing Board discussed and reviewed the following policies in order to allow the District to remain in compliance.

Board Bylaw and Exhibit: Conflict of Interest 9270 - Biennial Review
One of the roles of the Governing Board is to ensure District Board policies are reviewed, added, removed and kept up to date in order to keep the District legally compliant.
Conflict of Interest Bylaw and Exhibit 9270 The Political Reform Act requires every local government agency to review its conflict of interest code biennially (every even-numbered year) to determine if it is accurate or if the code must be amended. The Office of the County Counsel has reviewed the above and resolution and no advised edits have been made to the Conflict of Interest Procedure 9270.

Personnel: Provisional Internship Permit
The Governing Board approved the Provisional Internship Permit for Kelsey Calehuf, qualifying her for her assignment as of August 15, 2024.The Provisional Internship Permit (PIP) allows districts to fill an immediate staffing need by hiring an individual who has not yet met the subject matter competence requirement needed. The following teacher is currently in the process of completing their course work and requires a Provisional Internship Permit (PIP).

Next Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Cambrian School Board will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held on a Tuesday instead of Thursday, due to Rosh Hashanah. Meetings are held in person at the Professional Development Center located at 4115 Jacksol Drive, San Jose, CA 95124 in Building 7, and can be viewed online as well. Agenda and login information will be available the week of the Oct. 1st meeting. The meeting is open to the public.
