Meet the NewPrincipal! Dr. Heather Lieberman, South River Primary School

Hello South River Primary School Community,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter to you as the new Principal of South River Primary School.

This year I begin my 20th year in education. During my career in Education, I have served as an Assistant Pre-Kindergarten teacher, a Kindergarten teacher, a Reading Recovery teacher, a Literacy Coach, and most recently as a Literacy Curriculum Supervisor.

I am both elated and honored to be appointed to South River Primary School, where I can continue the work I love with the students, staff, and families of South River.

I am committed to working together to provide our students with the highest quality education in an environment that is safe, nurturing, and joyful.

As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to email or call to make an appointment to discuss your concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this year the best it can be!

My Background

My Roots

I grew up in Coral Springs, Florida but moved up to New Jersey in 2009. I live in Perth Amboy, which I love!

My Family

I am married to Rob, a high school Law Teacher at Barringer High School, and we have Wren, who is 19 years old and about to be a sophomore at Rutgers in New Brunswick.

My Dog

This is Penny, our 10-year-old Cavachon. She is definitely spoiled and we love her that way!

My Career

  • Earned my BA in Political Science & English Education from the University of Central Florida, received my Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University, and my Masters's Degree in Educational Leadership from TCNJ.
  • Started my teaching career as a Pre-K teacher in Margate, Florida before teaching Kindergarten in Miami, Florida.
  • Taught HS English in Pemberton and 2nd Grade in Trenton.
  • Worked as a Reading Recovery Teacher and Literacy Coach in Trenton.
  • Started my administration journey as a Supervisor of Literacy in Hamilton and most recently in Newark.
