An Update from Hough Elementary
October 1, 2024 Newsletter
Welcome, Ms. Yacopino!
We are excited that Ms. Laura Yacopino will be joining the Hough School Staff as the AP TOSA/District 504 Coordinator. She comes to us with many years of experience as a special education teacher in neighboring towns, including Lake Zurich. She will be starting with us this week and will be visiting classrooms and out on the playground to get to know students and families.
Morning Drop-off Safety
In our constant effort to keep everyone safe, I want to remind drivers to exercise extreme caution when dropping off students on Lincoln Avenue. Car, bus and pedestrian traffic remains extremely high before school and we ask that everyone remain extra vigilant. As well, if you are turning West onto Lincoln Avenue from Hough Street, you must pull forward to allow traffic to continue to move. We have observed cars pulling over at the corner, thus creating a hazard at the intersection. Thank you very much for your help in keeping this area safe for everyone.
Fall Parent Teacher Conferences
Fall Book Fair
This year’s Fall Book Fair will be open for student shopping, with their class, Monday - Wednesday, 10/14-10/16. Each class will have a designated day/time to shop. It will also be open during conferences; Wednesday, 10/16, from 3:30 pm-7:30 pm and Thursday, 10/17, from 1 pm-7 pm.
Flyers will come home in October, and our wonderful PTO is seeking parent volunteers to help. Purchasing books from our book fair will help raise funds for Hough.
Character Strong - Respect
Our students have been focused on demonstrating RESPECT throughout the school day. Teachers are busy recognizing students in the classroom as they catch them in the act. Mrs. Psaila's 2nd graders earned the RESPECT trophy this week due to their exemplary hallway behavior. This trophy will continue to rotate between classrooms.
Throughout the month of October, we will be recognizing students that show responsibility, which is our next Character Strong theme of the month. We will remind students what it means to be responsible and how we can demonstrate this throughout our school day and at home. Please read the attached monthly Character Strong newsletter for more information.
Some respectful second graders.
Kindergartners are demonstrating respect.
Way to go Matthew.
