From Ms. Busing
Dear Lake Windward Families,
I hope this message finds you well! As I complete my first week as your principal, I wanted to take a moment to share my excitement about joining this incredible school community.
I have had the pleasure of meeting many of our wonderful students, and I am truly inspired by their enthusiasm and curiosity. Each child brings something unique to our school, and I look forward to getting to know them even better in the coming weeks.
I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the staff and families for the warm welcome I have received. Your support and commitment to our school make a significant difference, and I am excited to work together to create a positive and enriching environment for our students. Please be sure to read the information below from our PTO. Without our PTO, LWE would not be able to provide community events, enhance the learning opportunities for students and acknowledge the hard work of the staff.
As we embark on this school year, I am eager to build strong relationships with all of you. Together, we can ensure that every student can learn and grow and lead and show at Lake Windward Elementary. You will hear from me via a newsletter every other week on Tuesdays.
Lake Windward will host our FCS board member, Lillie Pozatek, for the community meeting on October 10th at 9:30am in the media center. These monthly sessions provide an opportunity for direct contact with community members and give board members a chance to hear from stakeholders. Please consider joining!
I am looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!
Your Proud Principal,
Lauren Busing

FIT Georgia Physical Assessment
Hello Gator Families! As part of your child’s P.E. program, Lake Windward is taking part in the FIT Georgia physical fitness assessment. All students in grades 1-5 will participate in this assessment, which aligns with the state law requiring schools to measure areas of fitness related to the health of students, including cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
The following FIT Georgia fitness assessments will be used to measure the various areas of health-related fitness:
- 20M PACER (Cardiovascular) – grades 4-5
- Curl-Up (Abdominal Strength) – grades 4-5
- Push-Up (Upper Body Strength) – grades 4-5
- Sit and Reach (Flexibility) – grades 4-5
- Height and Weight (Body Composition) – grades 1-5
It's important to note that the assessment does not compare your child to anyone else, nor does it measure skill or athletic performance. Instead, it compares your child to health standards established by researchers as the level of fitness all students should reach to attain health benefits.
Here are a few ways to support your elementary child:
- Stress the importance of fitness for feeling good
- Provide equipment that encourages physical activity
- Help your child identify a time and place for daily physical activity
- Limit screen time (TV, video games, devices, etc.)
- Be a role model for your child
- Praise and encourage your child to be active
- Involve your child in after-school or recreation programs within your community
If you have any questions, please contact the PE department:

LWE PTO INVEST CAMPAIGN -
Our 2024 “WRITE-A-CHECK” fundraising campaign is underway. We have a goal to raise $45,000. Once we reach our goal, this will be the ONLY FUNDRAISER that LWE PTO does for the entire school year, so please make it count.
So far, we’ve raised about 54% of our goal, with about 25% of our families participating (22% of our classroom families). Every little bit helps so please consider a donation of any amount. As you can see below, the money raised will be used to host family events, classroom and teaching resources, teacher grants, STEM programs, extracurricular activities, staff appreciation and engagement activities and more!
