Visual Arts
We are winding down the year with some really special and fun projects for the students!
We have been busy making Model Magic Dragon Eyes and Egg Carton Finger Puppets. Students have been enjoying working with the 3-D materials and some grade levels are learning how to safely use glue guns! We will have time for a few more projects before the year is over and there will be one more art show at the Sandoval Regional Medical Center. Information will be sent home at the end of April for students that will have work on display at the Hospital through the summer. Thank you for your continued support of the art program here at Sandia Vista Elementary. I feel really lucky to have one of the most fun jobs at SVE!

Music
April will be a great month for performances! Choir 1 has the honor of performing for the RRPS School Board Meeting on April 14th. Also, our 5th Grade Band and Orchestra programs will be combining with our Choir program to do a recruitment concert for our 4th Grade Students! This will be during school hours towards the end of April. We highly encourage our students to discuss with their families the opportunity to join one or more of these amazing programs being offered to them during their 5th Grade Year!
We have even more performances planned for the month of May! Keep your eyes peeled for more information in May’s Newsletter!!!

STEAM
We are excited to share the latest updates from our STEAM class! This month, our
students will dive into the fascinating world of physics by exploring Sir Isaac Newton's
Third Law of Motion. They will apply this concept to build and launch straw rockets,
measure velocity outcomes, and gain hands-on experience with the principles of action
and reaction.
In addition to their physics adventures, our students have been learning about insects.
They are creating clay models to enhance their understanding of these tiny creatures.
As part of our exploration of nature, we will introduce the topic of seed dispersal.
Students will discover how seeds travel through various methods such as wind, water,
animals, and even explosive mechanisms. They will learn about birds and why they have
different beaks including how different bird beaks are adapted to eat specific types of
seeds and fruits.
As we approach the end of the year, some students are gearing up for their final
Engineering project: designing and building cardboard arcade games! To prepare for
this exciting challenge, they are learning about cardboard attachments, and developing
essential engineering skills that will help them create innovative and engaging games.
If you have any legos or stem-type activities that you would like to donate to the Steam
Lab please reach out to me at heidi.hohenberg@rrps.net
Physical Education
Spring is here, and we are excited to bring more movement, fun, and skill-building activities to our Physical Education classes! This month, we are continuing our focus on teamwork, coordination, and building lifelong fitness habits.
What We’re Learning:
Cooperative Games: Working together in team challenges to build communication and sportsmanship.
Throwing & Catching: Developing hand-eye coordination through partner and group activities.
Fitness Stations: Rotating through fun exercises like jumping jacks, squats, and balancing activities to improve strength and endurance.
Pacer Test (2nd) - a program to assess a student's cardiovascular fitness and track their progress over time.
Healthy Habits Tip:
Staying hydrated is key to staying active and healthy! Encourage your child to drink plenty of water before, during, and after physical activity. Proper hydration helps with energy levels, focus, and overall well-being. Send a reusable water bottle with your child to PE to help them build this important habit.
How You Can Help:
- Ensure your child wears proper footwear (sneakers) and attire for PE days.
- Encourage outdoor play at home to reinforce physical activity.
- Talk about the importance of teamwork and staying active as a family.
- Encourage your child to drink plenty of water.
Thank you for your continued support in making physical education fun and beneficial for all our students.
Stay Active & Stay Healthy!

Chromebook Insurance
When registering for the 2025-2026 school year, watch for a link to sign up for chromebook insurance. This coverage is very reasonable and covers repair and replacement costs in the event that your child’s device gets damaged.
Chromebooks:
Chromebooks do NOT go home with students at the elementary level (students begin taking these home when they go to 6th grade. 5th grade students’ chromebooks will be sent home with them at the end of this school year IF they have registered to attend an RRPS middle school in the fall. Please e-mail tiffany.hale@rrps.net if you do NOT want your child’s chromebook to be sent home. Your child will then need to see the Ed Tech at their middle school in the fall to have a chromebook issued to them).
Accessing Content at Home:
Students are able to access educational content used at school from home (using a household device) by going to Clever's login page and using their school credentials.
