Mrs. Mader's Message
Hello Westside families,
This week has been quite the whirlwind with our varying winter temperatures! Students (and staff) have been grateful for the days we have been able to get outside, even when it is in short increments. This week we also worked on diagnostic testing for our kindergarten students, and will work with 1st grade readers on similar assessments next week. Your kindergarten and 1st grade student's AIMSWeb+ results will be shared with you on Friday, January 24th.
You will see a link below in the Resources & Reminders section about our Student Handbook and policies around attendance in the River Falls School District elementary schools. Students get 4 Ill days per semester, and 10 parent excused absences per year. Here is a wonderful handout from Attendance Works with some other related information. I wanted to take a quick moment to remind you not only about district policy, but also just to let you know your student is missed when they are not here! Please let us know if there is anyway our staff can support your student getting to school everyday, we are here to help!
Have a fantastic weekend!
With kindness,
Rachel

As we approach the second half of the year, we wanted to remind families of our district and state attendance policies.
Students are allowed 4 ill days per semester and 10 prearranged absences for any reason per year. Arrival after 9:15 without a dr note or prior notification is considered unexcused. Please revisit the entire policy in our Student Handbook.
Character Education
January Character Trait: Cooperation
Cooperation is working together with others to achieve a common goal. It's about listening, compromising, and being a good team player.
Examples:Passing the basketball to a teammate who has a better shot than you do.
Working on a science fair project with a classmate.
