Principal's Corner
Dear Slate Hill Families,
As technology continues to become more present in our student’s lives, Worthington Schools has been seeking to better understand the impacts of technology in our classrooms. All schools in Ohio are required to adopt a policy regarding cell phone use by July 2025. Superintendent Dr. Bowers recently presented student, community, and staff feedback regarding cell phone use in our schools and Worthington’s progress toward defining a cell phone policy which you can view here.
Based on this feedback, we are adjusting our technology practices at the elementary level. Students at our elementary schools have always been asked to silence cell phones and are required to keep them in their bookbags during the school day. Now, this practice will also apply to smartwatches and other wearable technology.
This change supports a more focused and distraction-free classroom environment while still allowing students to access technology for communication to and from school. We understand that many families find value in features like location tracking, and this adjustment allows for these needs to be met without interrupting the school day. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create the best learning experience for all our students!
Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
What do I do when my child is absent? Please notify the school each time by calling 614-450-5000 and leave a message or email hbaugh@wscloud.org, our new attendance secretary. Please be sure to include your child's first and last name, grade level, teacher's name and reason for their absence. Please be sure to turn in all doctor's notes to the office if you have one when your child is absent.
A BIG THANK YOU to all of the families who were able to participate in our Slate Hill PTA Chipolte Night this week!
It is time to check the lost and found! We have A LOT of jackets and sweatshirts that have been left behind. We would love for you to check them out before Thanksgiving break! We will be donating these items during Thanksgiving break!
As always, we want to partner with you in your child's education. Please plan to join me and Mrs. Loges for our Pop in Partnership parent meeting on Monday, November 25th at 8:15am in our cafeteria. See the flier below for more information. If you are able to attend, please RSVP here. Bring your coffee and we will supply the treats!
Please reach out to me if I can help or support you in anyway!

Counselors' Corner
When big feelings like sadness or anger come up, it can be tempting to try to "fix" or distract them from the feeling. It is important to let your child feel those uncomfortable feelings instead of encouraging them to bottle up their emotions. Read some helpful tools for encouraging your child to feel their feelings!
Thank You!

For the safety of our students and to follow district policy, please remember that Worthington Schools are NUT-FREE. Please check that your child is not bringing in any food or candy that has peanuts or any sort of nuts to school.

From the Health Office
It's that time of year again…….
Your child is too ill to go to school if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
Temperature above 100.4 F
Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
Shortness of breath or has an increase in wheezing during normal activity
Has a cough that interrupts normal activity
Pain from an earache, headache, or sore throat
Has yellow or green drainage from nose and/or eye(s)
Rash over body or localized to one area of the body
Fatigue and needs bed rest
Signs of conjunctivitis such as red, itchy, crusty, or swollen eyes
Students who are sent home with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher must remain at home until the student is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication. In most cases, this means that students will miss the following school day. Please understand that fevers can reoccur within a 24-hour time period and this policy is in the best interest of all students.
Students who are sent home due to vomiting or diarrhea must also stay home for 24 hours to ensure that these symptoms are gone before returning to school.
Students exhibiting signs of conjunctivitis (crusty eyes, red or swollen eyes) may return once the symptoms have been treated and are gone or a note is presented from a doctor stating that the student may return to school.
Students who show signs of a communicable disease, such as exhibiting a rash, may return to school once the rash is gone or a note is presented from a doctor stating that the student may return to school.
Please communicate illness with the office.
Thank You!

School Meals and Free/Reduced Applications
The USDA had school food services return to pre-pandemic operations last year.
Worthington Schools has eligibility-based pricing of meals (Free/Reduced/Paid).
All Worthington School families are required to complete the online Free/Reduced Lunch Eligibility Form. All students use their Lunch ID for meals. The student's number can be found in the Parent Portal. Select the Student ID tab and look for your Lunch PIN.
Families can add money to their lunch account through My Payments Plus. You can also use MPP to track your student's account and see much money remains on it. My Payments Plus is also used to pay other fees, like high school parking permits and AP testing fees.
