KINDNESS MONTH
~ December 2024 ~
Hawley School spends December celebrating Kindness. The focus is how tiny Acts of Kindness can make a difference in so many lives and positively affect our self, home, school, community and the world.
Our Kindness Committee works hard to create activities we do throughout the month and then plan the Kindness Assembly that is always the cherry on the sundae. The Committee led by Mrs. Vitarelli, consists of many staff: Ms. Albano, Mrs. Cappelli, Ms. Crystal, Mrs. Fusco, Mrs. Hiruo, Mrs. Leja, Ms. Lubin, Mrs. Marak, Mrs. Melvin, Mrs. Pisano, Ms. Sollazzo, Ms. Tatto, and Ms. Tischio.
~ Our Mentor Text ~
Each class received and read a copy of the book, Be Kind written by Pat Zietlow Miller and illustrated by Jen Hill.
It was a story about how a simple act of kindness spreads. This was our inspiration and focus this year.
~ Hawley Post Office ~
The Hawley Kindness Post Office was visited by each class. They anonymously created a Kindness Postcard filled with positive affirmations. They then addressed and stamped the cards placing them in our mailbox. Each student was delivered a card.
~ Kindness Cart ~
All Classrooms had time with the Kindness Cart. They Buddy Read Kindness Picture Books and did writing and art activities while enjoying Hot Chocolate.

~ Kindness Assembly ~
Our month concluded with our Kindness Assembly. Our Assembly has students reading chosen pieces that they wrote about What Kindness means to Them. Each grade level also sang a song that they chose and then the entire school sings our usual finale.
- K sang "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles
- Grade 1 sang "You've Got a Friend" by Randy Newman
- Grade 2 sang "Saved My Life" by Andy Grammer
- Grade 3 sang "One Call Away" by Charlie Puth
- Grade 4 sang "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars
- The Whole School sang "Nothing More" by Alternate Routes
A BIG Difference this year is that the Assembly was run by Student Kindness Ambassadors. 4th Graders submitted essays about Kindness and Leadership, and they were chosen by the Committee.
