NWEA Testing: Aug 28 - 29
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is the state of California’s academic testing program. The CAASPP is administered to all 11th graders. To prepare for the CAASPP, 9th and 10th grade students take the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests. These adaptive tests measure growth throughout the school year, and from year to year.
ASB Club Fair - Friday, August 30th
ASB will be hosting the first club fair of the 24-25 school year this coming Friday in the Quiet Study Area at lunch. Students can see what clubs have been chartered and find out how to start a club. Current clubs should check their email for steps to reserving a table. A current list of chartered clubs can be found HERE. Questions can be directed to Mr. Owens in room 219/222.
Valhalla will have an Extended Lunch Period to accommodate the Club Fair. Every class period will be 2 minutes shorter.
School Site Council - We Need Student Representatives
The School Site Council provides recommendations related to the school’s Title I program, and participates in the development and approval of the school’s Site Plan for Student Achievement. School Site Council meets four times a year in October, November, March, and May at 4:00pm in the VP Conference Room.
Valhalla needs two students to serve on School Site Council this year. If you're interested in participating, please email Ms Kuhlken at vkuhlken@guhsd.net or you can stop by her office to pick up the application.
Portrait of a Graduate
We want to hear the perspectives and opinions of our students and families. The Grossmont Union High School District is launching a refresher process on our vision, mission, and goals for education in our district. Your experiences and ideas are vital contributions to this work. We would like to invite you to nominate students to attend an event that will be held on Tuesday, September 17th
At this event, they will be asked to share your ideas and experiences to help us refresh our schools for future students. This is a unique opportunity to share their experiences as a student in Grossmont Union High School District. Through a series of activities, they will be asked to reflect on moments in their education that have worked for them and those that didn’t, brainstorm the skills they believe they will need to meet the future and identify the qualities of influential adults that have shaped their educational experiences. The feedback will help us develop a Portrait of a Graduate. The Portrait of a Graduate for GUHSD will be based on what the community wants to be true for its students—what students need to know, be, and be able to do--by the time they graduate. Lunch will be provided.
Please use this form to nominate students: Portrait of a Graduate Nomination Form
