Happenings Around the School
Congratulations to the Co-Ed Competition Cheerleading Squad they won the YAIAA Championship!
Student Council News!
Student Council had a very busy Fall. We hosted the homecoming dance in September with the theme of "A Night Under the Desert Stars". There were over 900 students in attendance. We also collected cans at the football game to donate to a local food bank. Speaking of cans, we recently held our Thanksgiving food drive. We donated over 700 pounds of food to a local food bank. We also hid turkeys around the school for students to earn a sweet treat.
In October we hosted the Powder Puff game where the Junior class were the winners. We raised $800 dollars at that game. That money is going to be used to purchase Christmas toys for Community Reach to distribute in our community. In October we also hosted the RL Mini Thon in a conference to help assist them in leadership skills. We also attended the Pennsylvania State Student Council Conference virtually and learned valuable leadership skills from other councils around our state.
Our ILS classroom celebrated Thanksgiving and Honor Roll recipients on Tuesday, November 26th. They had a pancake breakfast and played some games. They also showed off their Honor Roll certificates!
Turkey Scavenger Hunt in the Library
The HUB (Library) hosted a Turkey Scavenger Hunt! The students had to find 23 hidden turkeys to get a number and letter to complete the answer to the question of "Why did the turkeys visit the library?"
Happy Thanksgiving from the Yearbook Staff!
Important Information
Information Regarding Good Standing Status
Attention Parents, Guardians and Students: We are continuing to monitor data to determine which students are in good standing and those that are not. If a student is not in good standing their privileges to the cafe will be revoked for one week. Grade and attendance reports are generated on Thursday mornings at 9am. Students and guardians will receive notification Thursday afternoon by email to notify them if they able to visit our wonderful cafe. Participation in the end of the marking period reward and other events can be determined by a student's good standing status. Please reach out to your assistant principal if you have any questions or concerns.
Criteria used to determine good standing:
1. Students must maintain passing grades (60% or higher for the marking period grade). Students are allowed to have one course grade lower than 60%.
2. Students must have 9 or fewer unexcused absences in the past two months.
3. Students must adhere to the student code of conduct as explained in the Student Handbook. Repeated or multiple minor infractions or serious violations result in being removed from good standing.
STEM Summit - December 4 & 5 - URGENT NEED!
We have an URGENT need for volunteers for an event that is going on at Red Lion Area High School on Wednesday, December 4th and Thursday, December 5th. Junior Achievement of South Central PA will be here with their STEM Summit program and all 332, 9th graders will be participating in day long activities designed to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
We are still in need of at least 4 volunteers for December 5th to make this event happen for the students. If we can’t get the volunteers to help, this day is in danger of being cancelled. I hope you will please join us as we spend the day impacting and inspiring the students at our school! I also hope you will share this opportunity with other friends, neighbors and colleagues who may be interested in helping the students. We need to spread the word and help to save the day!
Volunteers will work alongside other volunteers to facilitate one thirty- minute activity eight times during the day with small groups of students. Check out the links to the Volunteer Overview and the informational video in the attached flyer for more information. You can also view the activities on our website. https://www.jascpa.org/stemsummittraining
JA will provide training the morning of the event and as soon as you sign up you will receive a link to both written instructions and a brief training video. School clearances are not required for this one-day event. You do not need to have any specific background or training to help. Red Lion Area High School will provide a light breakfast and lunch!
To sign up or for more information, please contact Shannon Baker at JA at Sbaker@jascpa.org
