Levelland ISD's
November 13th, 2023
On World Kindness Day I hope you spread cheer and positivity. Even the smallest act can have a profound effect and one kind word can make someone's day better. By our kindness, we can make a difference at Levelland ISD, our community and the entire world.
Thank you to all our students and staff members who helped make our annual Veterans Day program a success. Your actions made so many veterans feel appreciated. It was a fantastic program.
On Wednesday, we will celebrate our Paraprofessionals across the district. We thank these educators for their hard work and dedication to our students. They often provide teachers with administrative support, work with students outside of the classroom, & give one-on-one support to students. So take the time to recognize the vital work paraprofessionals do & thank them for their contributions to your school!
I hope you have a wonderful week and have a great Thanksgiving!
Go Lobos.

World Kindness day!
Today is World Kindness Day and Capitol students have been learning new ways to be kind every day in Counselor Barbara Utley's Class. They read Otis and the Scarecrow to get a few tips on being kind and added their own ideas to go with the theme of the book. They made a Kindness Patch for all of Capitol to enjoy.
Veterans Day
LISD Veterans Day Celebration
Levelland ISD hosted the second annual Veterans Day Celebration Friday morning. There was a great turnout to recognize and thank our veterans for their service to our country. The program was student-led from every LISD Campus. Veterans were gifted with letters, art, and appreciation thanks you notes from every campus. Thank you to all the students that participated, and the LISD teachers that prepared them for their roles. We are so proud of you and how you represented LISD. Thank you LTC-Retired Joan Sanders for your address about how powerful women have become in every military branch. Thank you to the Civil Air Patrol students for posting the colors. Thank you to our Maintenance Department for giving rides to our Veterans from the parking lot. It was a nice ceremony and we appreciate all involved!
Veterans Honored at South!
South Elementary students were caught making a hallway flag to honor Veterans in Mrs. Mary Bara's Art Class. They learned the meaning of today's significance and then "gave a hand" to our Veterans to make a beautiful flag. Thank you, Mrs. Bara for your creativity!

New Teacher Academy
LISD is so lucky to have the First Year Teacher Academy for new teachers. Christi Peck & Gracie Ruiz lead these new teachers to successfully communicate with other educators. They were engaged in activities that helped them deal with different situations throughout the year. We know these educators are already fantastic!
Adopt A Techie!
Don't you wish you had someone to call when your computer won't work? We do! LHS Technology & Computer Maintenance Teacher April Austin's LoboTech students are always busy repairing computers! Now they've also started a new LHS program called Adopt A Techie! Our LoboTech students are paired with LHS teachers when they request help on computers or electronic devices. Students are trained on all tech applications offered to the district and basic troubleshooting for teacher devices. LoboTech students are responsible for student Chromebook repair and digital designs for high school tvs. Not only are these students computer gurus, they are learning to communicate better with adults. We are so proud that this class offers students a career choice after High School!
Chiliheads!
Can I take your order, please? The Lobo Diner High School students visited Chilis last week with Mrs. Melissa Young and Mrs. Christine Burt. They got to become Chiliheads for the day. They got to work in the kitchen and prepare meals to share. They also help with prep for the day. They got to help prep the dining area for customers. Each student had a great experience and learned so much from the employees who helped them. It was a wonderful experience that the students will always remember. Mrs. Young and Burt's class opens doors for these kids because these amazing skills are learned and can be used after high school. Thank you for that! #ExpectExcellence #LevellandISD
FFA Enjoys Ag Tour
Last week our LHS FFA officers were up early for the Hockley County Ag Awareness Tour! This was the perfect activity for our FFA group. They got to Tour Ag Products, HET Levelland, and the United Cotton Growers Gin. They also heard from industry leaders and owners and how Agriculture is constantly advancing right here in Levelland! Thank you to the Levelland Chamber for organizing & inviting FFA to this event!
Entrepreneurs At Work
What do you think of when you see our double L on the back of a car, or McDonald's Golden Arches in the air? LHS students in Mr. Hill's Entrepreneur class have been studying brands, why they're successful, and even why some have failed. Mr. Hill #expectsexcellence & challenged his entrepreneurs to design a mini-storefront, using a popular brand that everyone recognizes. These storefronts were judged: Jaylyn Holmes won first place with his Smuckers front, Allen Avita placed second with his Ford front, and Breiyah Flores came in third with her Lego front. Mr. Hill's class is learning so many new things that will help them with a career after high school.
Turgor Pressure
LMS students in Mrs. Oliva Magee's Science class were caught in a science lab testing Turgor Pressure in plants (potatoes). They used three different solutions: one of just water, one of 4% salt water, and one of 20% salt water. They could see what happened to the plant cell's turgor pressure after being submerged for 20 minutes. The goal was that in the water solution the potato continued to be stiff, that in the 4% salt water would bend some, and that the 20% solution would bend basically all the way without breaking. This experiment showed the students that the salt dehydrated the plant cells and wilted the potato on the inside without it being wilted on the outside! What a great lesson Mrs. Magee! We appreciate your enthusiasm in the science lab!
