South MS Friday Blast

Mother Nature was certainly in a mood this week by making us feel like we were back in December, rather that in the blooms of spring, but we made it through as we welcomed Friday with open arms!

Last Friday was our first "after school dance" and it was very well-received by the students and staff with the highlight of the event being the Kona Ice Truck. Again, the weather hampered some of the planned outside activities but the reviews are in with an overwhelming thumbs up. Thanks go out to Ms. Meneeley for putting this event together!

Congratulations to Mrs. Apple and our South MS jazz band as they wrapped up their competition season last Friday night at North MS with a stellar performance by our students!

Miss Krall, Mrs. Welsh, and the South MS choir put on a fabulous concert last evening at Central MS. The evening was filled with the sounds of spring and thanks go out to everyone who attended the concert to support our students.

Autism Awareness Week concluded today with our Autism Walk fundraiser. It was a great time with overwhelming, very much appreciated support. Thanks go out to Mrs. Murphy, Ms. McGuire, Mrs. Faucette, Ms. Hunter, and Mr. Moser for all of their hard work putting this together.

Report cards will be available for viewing on PowerSchool at 4:00PM today.

Next week = Spring Break! Remember that next Thursday is an early dismissal day (11:45AM) for our students. No lunch will be served. Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Congratulations go out to our South MS choir for putting on an amazing spring concert last evening at Central MS. Miss Krall, Mrs. Welsh, and the students worked very hard perfecting their vocal talents to showcase their achievements. We are South Proud of our choir students!

Spring break is almost here! This is a reminder that Thursday, April 17th is an early dismissal day for students. Middle School dismissal is at 11:45AM. No lunch will be served to students on early dismissal days. School and offices are closed on Friday, April 18th, and Monday, April 21st. Classes resume on Tuesday, April 22nd. Have a great spring break!

PSSA testing is coming up at the end of April. Parents/guardians can find everything you need to know about PSSA testing here.

Congratulations to the LAX team on a big win this week against Pennfield MS! The team and coaches would like to thank Mrs. Scholz for making a fabulous scoreboard for the team. Even Clyde, the decoy coyote, helped to keep score during the game. Clyde not only keeps the geese off of Poppy Yoder field, but he's an excellent score keeper!

• Baseball - James Memorial Park (1027 Ridge Rd., Sellersville)
• Lacrosse - Poppy Yoder Field at South MS
• Track/Field - Pennridge High School track
• Softball - Pennridge South MS softball field (on the east end of Poppy Yoder field)

Additionally, keep in mind that spring weather is quite changeable and games are sometimes cancelled at the last minute due to weather conditions. Thank you!

Parents/guardians who are interested in volunteering for school events must have current clearances on file with our district office. If you are new to volunteering in our schools, click here and scroll down to Volunteer Clearances for all the information you need to obtain the required clearances. For your convenience, the district office is offering extended hours for volunteers to drop off their paperwork from 3:30-5:30PM at the district office on the following dates:

• May 12th
• June 16th

1. Please remind students to charge their laptops every night.
2. Please remind students of the importance of listening carefully to AM and PM announcements for up-to-the-minute information that might affect their school day schedule.
3. If your child is going to be absent from school, please call the school office at 215-257-0467 to inform us of the absence, or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for absence (illness, family trip, etc.).
4. If your child is being dismissed early for any reason (dentist appt, doctor appt, family trip, etc.) please call the school office at 215-257-0467 or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for early dismissal.
5. If your child is going to be arriving late to school, please call the school office at 215-257-0467 or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for tardiness (overslept, not feeling well, etc.) to inform us of the late arrival.
6. Notification of absence, early dismissal, or late arrival will help us notify your child's teachers why the student is not in class. Thank you!
