Brown County Fair 2024
Ocie's Fair Fun
The Brown County Fair just ended! This year's annual fair was held from September 23rd to the 28th. I interviewed Ocie Howard about her experience at the fair. Ocie started showing about four or five years ago, and she started showing because of her interest in animals. This year, she showed rabbits and chickens, and she won a reserve championship with her chicken. Unfortunately, the storm shut down the fair on Friday, but on the other days she had fun. Ocie stayed at the fair campgrounds, and rode most of the rides. She had a lot of fun this year, and hopes to return next year.

Addy's Fair Artwork
On October 8th, I interviewed Addy Icard about her time at the fair. She entered her artwork, which featured a horse, ladybug, spiderman, and mountains. She got a 1st place ribbon for her mountains and the rest of her artwork got second place. Except for her ladybug, which did not receive a ribbon at all. I asked her if she would enter artwork in the fair again and she said she probably would not enter any of her artwork in the fair again. She said that the artwork that she entered was ripped when she got it back except for the picture of the mountains, which was on a canvas. Addy shared that she did not go to the fair, but her parents ran the SheBrews pop-up.

Volleyball Championships
If you would like to learn more about the middle school volleyball teams, then this article is for you. Today I interviewed Emily Pfankuch on her 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams. Emily said there's still a lot to improve and build on confidence wise. She also said she believes her team has improved greatly but just not as fast as other teams. Going into tournaments, the 7th grade team has 5 wins and 8 losses. Moving onto 8th grade volleyball, I asked Emily if she thinks the 8th grade will win championships, and she said she believes her 8th grade team will in fact, win championships. Emily stated, “We are the only team who can consistently set it up for hitters and we can finish with strong hitting." The 8th grade team has 13 wins and 0 losses. They had a perfect season. The 8th grade volleyball team won championships and got 1st place overall. However, the 7th grade volleyball team has lost championships but placed 2nd overall. In the end, both teams had good seasons and will continue their journey to improve next year.

Fall Festival
The Fall Festival is coming up! The Fall Festival is presented every year by the FPLS PTO, and will be held on the 25th of October, from 6pm to 8:30pm in the Elementary school. There will be food, games, prizes, haunted house, face painting, photo ops, cakewalk and more! The haunted house is covering the entire upstairs, starting at one set of stairs ending at the other. Every year the haunted house improves and we are so excited to see it again this year! The Candy Monster is also making a return again this year; students can bring in candy and “feed” the Candy Monster. All donations will be used at our Fall Festival. We would also like to recognise our sponsors from Shebrews Coffee, Beckers Burgers, and the food truck Funnel Of Luv. We hope to see you at the festival!

Drama 2024
Drama is when you have to learn how to act, and use those skills to calibrate with others. There are not just jobs in drama for acting, as it is a group effort which requires way more than just acting. We also need creativity, for things that would be hard to workaround, which can help make it easier. Drama is a team of individuals who each help each other. Drama cannot be done fully alone.
There are also ranks, in which I'm a representative. My job is to help people trying to find more information about drama. These can be things like telling people which day is auditions, or what play we’re doing. I also have to try and get other people into drama so our team can be bigger with more creative ideas. I do this so our team can expand and have new people to help us.
The other roles can be much more than acting, as I mentioned. You can be a backstage person, helping pull a certain, or switch lights. You can also do makeup for plays, which will help the actors look like what they are playing. You can also help with the setup, or if you're more of an artist you can draw the backgrounds. There is a place for everyone.
Our next play will be “A Wonderful Life”. The auditions are on 10-16-24. We will need multiple people to act. The play will be around december. I hope to see people watch the play soon!

Drama Continued
This article will share Carlee Donohews’ experience with drama club and her perspective of being a drama officer. Carlee is the seventh grade drama officer. Some of the responsibilities that come with that are helping pick out the play, the prices to get in, organizing, and decorating. The play they are doing is “It’s a Wonderful Life” for their Christmas play. She was inspired to join drama because of one of her best friends, Mara. Mara was already doing drama, and she convinced Carlee to join. Carlee ended up liking it and becoming a great drama student. Her favorite part is getting to meet new people, and what she believes is the most important part is being quiet backstage when other people are performing. Overall, Carlee is great at her job at the school, and is an amazing role model for new people wanting to join drama.

Student Council
Student Council elections just ended. Today, I interviewed Colby Williams about his role in the middle school student council. Colby shared that this is his second year in student council. Last year, he was not an officer, but this year he is the secretary. As secretary, Colby will take notes, share any ideas or plans with Mrs. Campbell, (the student council director) and keep track of things that happen in meetings. This year, Colby made posters and talked to people throughout the student body during campaign week. Colby stated that he wanted to be a part of student council to better the school, and continue efforts from last year. Student council has had their initial meeting, and has plans set out for meetings in the future. To sum things up, Colby is excited for a fresh year of making Fayetteville Middle School a better place.
