Mountain Lion Memo
Family Newsletter - September 27th
Hello Mackeben Families,
In compliance and in cooperation with, Algonquin Police Department, Mackeben Elementary will be conducting a “Lockdown” Drill on Wednesday, October 2nd. A “Lockdown” Drill is a simulation event intended to practice procedures for protecting students and staff should there ever be a safety threat on the school campus.
The“Lockdown” Drill, like our fire and tornado drills, is part of the Huntley Community School District 158 Comprehensive Safety and Crisis Plan. The school district works closely with local police and fire departments in their response to our schools during times of crisis. Local first responders participate in these practice drills throughout the school year.
Mackeben Elementary students will be supervised during the drill by their regular teachers and students will practice their safety efforts with their teachers. These activities are conducted in ways appropriate to the developmental level of the students involved and they will have an opportunity to ask questions. The drill does not include any type of simulations that mimic an actual shooting or active shooter event.
We want to bring this to your attention to keep you aware of our commitment to protect your child and to alert you to this safety drill. If you would like your child to be excluded from this drill, please contact Mrs. Marzullo before October 1st. Alternative safety education will be provided to any student who does not participate in the drill.
As a parent, your child may want to share their experience with you. This is a good opportunity for you to reassure your child that the drill was a practice to keep them safe and to reinforce with them that the teacher is trained on how to protect them and that they should always follow the safety directions of the teacher.
Please note that our Campus Resource Officer ,who works for (Police Department), will be observing this drill. The Campus Resource Officer will then collaborate and reflect with the school's administration to ensure our actions during this crisis are the best safe practices.
As always, please contact me if you have any questions about this or our other proactive safety measures.
Sincerely,
Marcie Marzullo - Principal

Shining Bright - Staff Star of the Week!!!!
Ms. Theresa Haufe
Ms. Haufe has been a pillar of the Mackeben school and community for quite some time. She has been a kindergarten and 2nd grade teacher at Mackeben as well as a district 158 parent.
Ms. Haufe is a caring, supportive and encouraging teacher that gets to know each and every one of her students personally to better develop them academically as well as social emotionally. She has a kind heart and sees the positive in every situation.
Ms. Haufe is also a dedicated mother and grandmother. I know she will be very involved with family activities soon, as she is retiring at the end of this school year.
We are so very grateful and appreciative of Ms. Haufe for the love that she gives all students and her colleagues.
