Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Students,
Happy Sunday!
Last week I let you know about a cool deal that our district has made regarding testing! Students who do very well on State Testing (earn a "3" or a "4") can earn credits for previously failed math or English classes! This is a great reason for students to try their best on the upcoming State testing!
This week I wanted to review some of the big things that all seniors need to complete in order to graduate!
The parents of all seniors were sent a "RVHS Senior Graduation Status" letter mailed home via US MAIL. All parents were also sent an email with the same information. Those status letters were sent out last Friday, April 11th. Please refer to that status letter to see which requirements (of all those listed below) still need to be met by your senior student! If you didn't get a status letter (or can't find it) please let us know!
Here are the big things that all seniors need to do in order to graduate:
#1:
Pass all "in-person" classes! Remember, there are no "D" grades in TVUSD! So it has to be a "C" or better to pass!! We've just finished the third week of Quarter 4---so this quarter is already almost half done!!
#2:
Pass any Credit Recovery classes that are needed to graduate. We only assign two classes at a time, but that doesn't mean that your student ONLY HAS TWO CLASSES to complete! Please check with your Credit Recovery Teacher to know EXACTLY how many online courses that need to be completed! Credit Recovery classes take some time to complete...so the time is NOW to get those finished up!
#3:
Complete your 30 hours of Community Service! Remember, this isn't optional! Students won't receive a diploma if the 30 hours aren't completed! Talk with our Counseling Tech, Ms. Katie Brewer, in the library, if you need help figuring out what to do for community service. Here's a link to the form you need to fill out for community service! On the second page of this linked form are some ideas of what you can do to fulfill the requirement! All completed community service forms need to be turned in to Ms. Katie or Ms. Rice in the Counseling Center. Always remember to take a picture of your completed form so that you have proof of all the work that you've done!
#4:
Complete the FAFSA or the FAFSA Opt-Out. Completing the FAFSA (FAFSA stands for: Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or the "Opt-Out" is a district requirement. You can work with our CAL-SOAP College Success Coaches to help get the FAFSA done---or...you can meet with Ms. Rice (our Counselor) and she can talk to you about the Opt-Out option. The opt-out option takes about 2 minutes! And just so you know, opting out of completing the FAFSA doesn't mean that you can't complete it later on! It just is an OPT-OUT for our own DISTRICT FAFSA REQUIREMENTS! Either way, make sure that it's done! Talk with Ms. Katie or Ms. Rice about where you stand with this important requirement. Of course, check your recently sent "Senior Status Letter" as well!!
#5:
PE Waiver needs to be completed. This one should pretty much be done for all RVHS seniors ALREADY...but students who have newly transferred to Rancho may need to check with Ms. Katie or Ms. Rice to see if it's completed!
Remember, graduation will be held at Great Oak High School on Friday, June 6th starting at 4:30 pm! We want all of our seniors to graduate and join us on that day!!
If you have any questions, please let me know!
Have a Great Week!!!

Mission Hope: Food Assistance
We understand that unexpected challenges, such as job loss or other financial hardships, can create food insecurities for families, especially during this time.
If your household is in need of food assistance, we encourage you to use the link immediately below to request support from our local food pantry, Mission Hope.

Through this partnership, we can discreetly send a backpack filled with non-perishable food items home with your student.
Please know that all information submitted to Mission Hope remains confidential and will not be shared with the school or anyone outside of Mission Hope. We will only receive notification of which student needs a backpack. Our goal is to support our students and families in any way we can.

Mission Hope: Necesidades Alimentarias
Entendemos que hay situaciones inesperados, como la pérdida del empleo y otras dificultades financieras, pueden crear inseguridad alimentaria para las familias; especialmente durante este tiempo.

EBike Safety Guidelines
We know that a lot of our students ride a bike or ebike to school!
Please check out the NEW SAFETY GUIDELINES put out by our district office in coordination with local law enforcement. If your student is riding a bike to school this is a must read! There are different laws for each type of bike. Check out those rules linked above.
And, regardless of the type of bike, please know that all students under 18 MUST WEAR A HELMET! That's a good starting point for safety while on a bike! Please review the link above and talk with your student about safe biking to school!
Place Your ID Card 2-3 Inches from the Video Doorbell Camera--AND HOLD!
Video Doorbell
Tips to Using the Video Doorbell
a) hold your ID card 2-3 inches from the screen
b) hold it steady so we can see it
c) Remember that there's a time lag...Hold the card there until you hear us buzz you in!
REMINDER ALL STUDENTS NEED A SCHOOL ID
Students PLEASE take a picture of your Student ID with your cell phone!
This is so you will always have a copy in case you forget to bring it!
Students: If you come to the front door of the school and don't have a school ID, we'll be asking for you to get one as soon as you enter the school! It only takes a few minutes!! That will make it easier each time you need to be "buzzed in" through the video doorbell system!
FOOD DELIVERY
Students may NOT order food to be delivered to school through Grub Hub, Door Dash, Uber Eats or any food delivery. If a parent brings food in, it can only be for their student and it must be left with the front office and the student may pick it up during lunch time only.
Attendance Matters
Report Your Student's Absence To:
951-294-6302 or email cavalos@tvusd.us
Have a student that is having difficulty attending school? Would you like to talk with someone about that? Please speak with Julia Carrillo, our Student Support Specialist (pictured at left) by calling the main office number and asking to be transferred to her. Or, you can email her at jcarrillo@tvusd.us.
