#Jaguar Pride

In reviewing a number of practices in the past, JSS came up with strategies to help students prioritize their academic and behavior targets, while being better prepared for challenges at school. So, we developed our school “Jaguar Pledge”. Our students and staff are “Proud of our Promise”.

Today I promise to:

• Take care of myself

• Take care of others

• Take care of this place

I won’t forget my promise.

From our jaguar pledge grew our “School Matrix” to help guide the efforts of our students and staff.

Now … when our students get “Caught in the Matrix” by taking care of themselves, others and our house, they are presented with “Jaguar Cards”. Students are excited to submit their jaguar cards to the office “Jaguar Draw Box’. Each week two student jaguar cards are randomly selected from the draw box and receive various prizes provided by our local community. In September 2024, 219 student jaguar cards were submitted into the jaguar draw box. Great work JSS students and staff, and thanks to the local businesses and our entire community for supporting this program.

We will celebrate Halloween on Thurs., Oct 31. This will include:

• students arriving at school with their costumes on - must be comfortable to sit in all day. No gory costumes (eg. blood ), no weapons.

• in lieu of a costume parade, students will participate in homeroom celebrations in the afternoon

Hot lunch will begin on Nov. 6 with Domino's Pizza. Grades 1 - 5 can order and pay online through the school website. Go to the Quick Link at the top, then to Online payments/ordering.

November Hot Lunch will be East Side Mario's on Nov. 20. Due to the Fall Break, Nov. orders much be entered by midnight on Nov. 5.

Volunteers are always needed for organizing and distribution on hot lunch days. Please text Kara at (780)281-1173 if you can help.

Mrs. Radchenko (Our Grade 5R Homeroom Teacher) is collecting pictures to make our JSS Hallway of Heroes display for Remembrance Day. Please submit any images you would like to have included to kradchenko@brsd.ab.ca.

These can be past or present service members. If you submitted photos in the last few years you do not need to resubmit those photos. This is for new JSS families and or new photos of family members that you may have not submitted yet. Please have photos submitted to Mrs. Radchenko by November 1st, 2024.

Our annual Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held on Fri., Nov. 8 at 10:30 am.

JSS Council & Parents’ Society

Welcome to fall! The playground project is gaining ground, and we are excited to announce that Carmack Enterprises out of Nisku have agreed to donate the equipment and labour to do the groundwork for a new swing set! This will save us approximately $17000 on the playground bill!! A big thank you to Terra Manion and her husband for making that happen!

Parent Council/Society has had their first meeting of the year. Thank you to the new parents who attended. There is always room for more. Meetings are online and give parents a chance to hear from administration about what is going on in the school and division, funding, and plans for the future.

During September’s meeting, officers were voted in:

The school requested a discretionary fund to support many events throughout the school year, swimming, skating, etc. Parents’ Society voted yes to give $3000, the same amount as was granted last year. Our meeting also covered information about staffing and office referrals.

The first fundraiser of the year has begun! DFS catalogs were sent home on September 23, more are available in the office. Paper orders must be returned to the school by October 21 , along with cash or cheque made out to Jack Stuart Parent Advisory. If you are paying via e-transfer, please include the name of the student in the message. This will make it much easier to match payments to orders. Online orders remain open until October 26. Thank you to those who have already ordered, we appreciate your support!

Join us at our next Parent Council meeting, followed immediately by the Parents' Society Annual General Meeting on Thurs., Nov. 7 at 5:30 pm.
