From the Principal Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families!
I hope you had a restful weekend and were able to get outside! It was gorgeous! I enjoyed seeing so many Park students and their families at the football game-Go Hilltoppers-and out and about in the community. YOU and your support are what make Chardon the special place it is!
I am excited to be visiting classrooms beginning this month to conduct 30 minute Sources of Strength lessons with our students. Sources of Strength is a curriculum that focuses on promoting mental health and building protective factors that increase connection, coping, resiliency and wellness.
The purpose of these monthly lessons is to help our students identify what strengths (or protective factors) they have in their lives to help them move through the challenges they may encounter as well as celebrate their successes. Fostering an open and supportive environment is crucial for the well-being of our students.
Benchmark testing for math and reading has been completed this week. Our dedicated teachers are currently diving into the results, analyzing the data to gain a clearer understanding of each student’s strengths and areas for growth. This information is crucial as it helps us tailor our teaching strategies and address specific needs in our upcoming lessons.
I’m excited about the valuable insights these assessments offer and am eager to use this data to enhance our instructional plans. Our goal is to ensure that every student receives the support and challenges they need to thrive. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make this a successful school year for all our students! #TopperUp
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee

Park Clinic Corner
**We are in need of gently used girls long sleeve shirts and leggings and boys underwear in the clinic.**
Hello Parents and Guardians! Here are a few clinic updates/reminders:
1. We cannot administer medications in the school clinic without an order (this includes prescribed and over the counter medications). Here are a few examples to refer to (but there are more examples):
*Your child has a cough and asks for a cough drop in the clinic. In order to provide cough drops to your child at school, you will need to fill out an over-the-counter order form and provide cough drops to the school for your child (which we will keep locked in the clinic).
*Your child has a rash (undiagnosed) that is recognized at home OR at school. We will call you about any rash that we see at school; however, we will not put hydrocortisone (or any ointment) on the rash. The rash would need to be treated outside of school. If an ointment is prescribed, the doctor could fill out a medication form to have the ointment school OR a parent could fill out an over-the-counter form and provide an ointment to the school (when the rash cause has been identified.)
Those are just a few examples, but please feel free to call if you have any other examples to review with us!
2. Additionally, I wanted to ask parents and guardians to please address issues with bug bites at home prior to coming to school. We have many students asking teachers to come to the clinic with reports of bug bites that occurred outside of school. These bites can be very distracting to kids (and anyone!) so please address them properly at home to avoid unnecessary trips to the clinic. If left unaddressed, we can simply intervene by providing vaseline to the area and ice pack for comfort.
Thank you again for letting us care for your awesome children and for partnering with us to keep our school happy, healthy and safe!!
The next PTO meeting is at 6pm on September 11th in the Park Cafeteria.
