Happy Holidays PBE!
Thank you for a wonderful November. We had lots of parents attend our Title I Reading Night. Our 4th and 5th graders did a great job with the Veterans Day performance and Thanksgiving lunch was a hit!
Now, December is arriving and so is the spirit of the Holidays. This is an exciting time for our little ones at PBE and we love to celebrate the magic of the season! Here at PBE we are going to be busy little elves this month. We will be celebrating the 10 Days of Christmas at PBE. Your child may dress up like the event listed each day. I will be posting lots of pictures on Facebook so be sure and like our page and stay tuned!
Our PTO has been hard at work this month getting ready for our Penguin Patch. Penguin Patch is a Holiday Shop set up for your children to purchase gifts for family members. The volunteers working Penguin Patch will help the children bag their items and label them for gift giving. All profits made go right back to the students through our PTO, please consider helping our PTO by allowing your children to do their Holiday Shopping at school.
We would also like to invite you to join us on December 17th at 5:00 pm for our Title I Math night. You will receive information about helping your child at home with math and our 2nd and 3rd graders will be singing. Make sure you ask your little Timberwolves what they are learning each day at PBE, they have lots to tell.
Moms and Dads, students, grandparents, and families, we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a truly Happy Holiday Season. I hope that your Groovy holidays are full of memories, laughter and fun times!
Love, Mrs. McKinney

It's Testing Time
PBE parents your children have worked hard these first few months and now it’s time to see how much they have learned. We will be taking our middle of the year MAP tests and DIBELS tests over the next few weeks.
Please remind your students that these tests are very important, they not only show us how much our students have learned they create a map for the teachers to use to guide their individual instruction for the next few months.
These tests are like check-ups they tell us where we need to go as teachers to help your children learn and grow. However, we can’t do our job if our students don’t do their part and try their best. Thank you for helping us!

Music is powerful. As people listen to it, they can be affected. They respond.”

News from the STEM Lab - Mrs. White
Wow last month went by quickly and December will as well. We have been very busy wrapping up units of study and getting ready to start 2025 with new concepts to increase our real-world problem-solving skills.
We had some special events last month. PBE won the first monthly contest for the Talkin’ Trash program that Horry County Solid Waste Authority promotes. Our 4th graders help me each week with recycling efforts, and they celebrated with a dance party, free Kona ices, a swag bag filled with goodies and were featured on Channel 13 news! We hope to win other monthly challenges to earn a free field trip at the end of the year. Way to go 4th grade!
We also had a visit from Santee Cooper who presented the Power Hazards Awareness demonstration to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The students learned the importance of staying safe around power lines and how to protect themselves from injuries.
On November 20, the 4th graders went on an environmental field trip to The Wood Magic Forest Fair at the Lynches River County Park. We learned about protecting our natural resources and the importance of forest lands to wildlife. It was a great day of learning and it was fun to spend the day in the woods.
Please don’t forget that we have partnered with Redwood Materials for a collection of rechargeable batteries (lithium ion and nickel metal hydride). They can be loose batteries and battery-containing devices such as old cell phones or old iPads for example. This collection will continue until the middle of February.
If you ever have questions about STEM or our recycling efforts, please reach out to me at cwhite@horrycountyschools.net.
Thank you and see you in the Lab. Mrs. White
The PBE Penguin Patch is Open
Monday December 2nd, the annual PBE Penguin Patch Christmas Shopping Event opens. Students will be able to visit the Penguin Patch and buy Holiday gifts for their families. Each class has signed up for a day and time to shop. Your child's teacher will be sending home the information for this event.
If you have any questions or would be able to volunteer for this event, please call Ms. Shannon at 843-236-6200.
Title I Family Math Night
You are invited to join us on December 17th at 5:00 pm for our Title I Math night.
Second and third grade students will be performing and you can visit your Timberwolves teachers to receive information about helping your child develop their math skills at home.
Fifth Grade Raises Money for End of Year Field Trip and Activities
Fifth grade is selling treats during recess on December 20th. All items are $1.00 - $2.00. The money we raise will help pay for the "Leaving Paradise Celebration" and the end of the year Overnight Trip to Columbia, SC.
Thank you for your support!
Stuff the Turkey - Salvation Army Fall Food Drive
The Stuff the Turkey Salvation Army Fall Food Drive was a huge success. PBE students and staff donated 1126 items and we exceeded our goal of 1000 items. The entire school earned a 10-minute dance party when we return from break. Thank you for helping our community this holiday season.
Parents and Guests, when we have events such as Title I nights, awards, luncheons, etc. please plan to leave all non-essential items in your cars. When you visit our school, you must go through the weapons detectors and if you have purses, bags, etc. it sets them off.
Please plan to just take the items you need such as keys, phones and perhaps money. All outside drinks should be finished before you enter our gym as well.
