Using the AASL Standards to Foster Life-Long Learning
Reading: A Life-Long Skill
"READING IS A WINDOW TO THE WORLD"
Reading is a skill on which so many other skills hinge. We will explore strategies and ideas for encouraging our students to think critically. Students must be take their new-found knowledge and collaborate with others, while contributing to the world outside their classroom.
Think Critically
Encourage your students to use their prior and background knowledge as a basis for acquiring new information. Assist them in evaluating information and gathering the meaning. We must go beyond "superficial" facts.
Peruse some lesson plan ideas that help develop critical thinking:

How can we prepare our students to use their critical thinking skills in real life? It is crucial that we encourage our students to read between the lines and make inferences. How can we help them organize their knowledge and use appropriate technology?
Share Knowledge
Our students need to learn to be informed and productive members of our society. Students must be able to collaborate and communicate with others, while respecting differences of opinion.
