Principal Ponderings: Do You
He brings up a great point. Every person has their reasoning for the way they go about their business on the daily. When I was in the classroom at Bangor, I knew that I had to use my planning hour to do nothing but prepare for the coming days, because I had practice after school. That would also mean that any grading that was going to be done had to be taken home to do on the couch or at the kitchen table.
During my one year in Linden while on my 3rd grade sabbatical, I could guarantee which cars I'd see in the parking lot as I drove by or was going for a run and I thought who would want to come in on the weekends and do this work. Well, probably those that either had commitments after school or didn't want to stay until 5:00 each night like I could because I didn't have kids and I wasn't coaching.
In the end, however the work gets done (which is the end goal) by others is up to them. You might shut your door during your planning and rock things out. You may be a weekend warrior and come in or head to the coffee shop for a few hours each weekend. You could be an after school person and prefer the quiet of a relatively empty building.
The old saying of treat others the way you want to be treated is outdated and self-centered. Treating others how they want to be treated is acting with an #otherpeoplematter mindset and allows you to do you!
