Schurr Announcements
SCHURR Expectation of the Week: Creator
"Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Attendance Rate: Our latest attendance rate was 94.42%. Let's work hard to keep our attendance rate above 95%. Please greet students with your uplifting Spartan Spirit and engaging 4Cs learning environments. Remind them that they are loved at Schurr. Thank you for your support.
Haunted House: Skills USA will be conducting its annual Haunted House fundraiser on Halloween, October 31, in Garth Kline's classroom. We look forward to their collaborative creations.
Halloween Appropriate Attire: Please have fun on Halloween following Schurr's Guidelines.
Out of Classroom Policy/Hall Passes: Please continue to have your students use the lanyard hall passes whenever you allow a student to leave class during instructional time. Please have them use the SHS Leaving Classroom Form when they leave and when they return. Thank you for your support.
Phone Confiscation: We have not been confiscating phones during instructional time consistently during the first quarter. Please inform students that we will be confiscating phones consistently if they are out of class during instruction time moving forward. Thank you all for your support.
PTSA: Thank you to many of you who joined PTSA. Thank you! If you did not get a chance, please join Schurr's PTSA. By collaborating and co-hosting events with Schurr's PTSA, we are able to provide many more opportunities for our students and staff. Membership matters.
Supportive Spartans
Supportive Spartans USB critically thought, collaborated, and communicated to create a series of uplifting, respectful events for our entire community to enjoy, like Neon Day on Friday.
Courageous Spartans
Courageous Spartan Drill Team started off the competition season with a First Place win. We commend you for your hours of courageous hard work in order to create winning seasons.
Hardworking Spartans
Hardworking Spartan, Denise Sanchez, once again was undefeated in Almont League tennis matches. Your courageous hard work inspire us all to strive to be our best, Denise.
Uplifting Spartans
Uplifting Schurr High School Spartan Legion and Montebello High School Mighty Oiler Brigade collaborated and uplifted both school communities at the 2024 Rivalry Game. Thank you for your support maintaining a respectful, uplifting tone befitting both schools.
Responsible Spartans
Responsible Spartans--Varsity Football, Junior Varsity Football, and Frosh Football--finished the rivalry sweep, Montebello's Pride of the City, with a decisive 42-0 victory. We are proud of the courage, hard work, respect, and responsibility our coaches instill in our student-athletes.
Respectful Spartans
Spartan Spirit
Gratitude: Thank you to Alma Aguilar, Jeannette Alvarado, Bea De la Rosa, Trevor Lomas, Denise Quan, Nelly Rios, and Ray Verduzco for their critical thinking, collaboration, and communication identifying students who qualified for Extended 4th, highlighting rosters, stamping stickers, and counting stickers to share with our students.
Gratitude: Thank you to everyone for a successful first quarter with Extended 4th. We are still analyzing data, but we do know that ninety-nine more students qualified for Extended 4th this quarter. Let's continue collaborating to improve our students' classroom performance.
Gratitude: Thank you Claudia Monreal and USB for an uplifting, respectful Spirit Week last week for Rivalry/Senior Week, culminating in an uplifting experience on Friday's football game.
Gratitude: Thank you to our football team for recognizing our stellar staff on Staff Night during our Rivalry game against Montebello.
Gratitude: Thank you for supportively greeting students and each other when you first interact. That small moment can make a student's and person day. A "hello, ____" or "good morning, ____" goes a long way to create a safe, positive learning culture. Thank you for your uplifting Spartan spirit.
Gratitude: Thank you for continuing to hand out Spartan Bucks to students who are showing Schurr values and expectations (Supportive, Courageous, Hardworking, Uplifting, Responsible, and Respectful) and the 4Cs (Critical Thinker, Collaborator, Communicator, and Creator).
