Families,

Next week is Homecoming week at Mount Vernon High School, and we are celebrating with a Spirit Week. Check out the video above from some of our 5th grade students about what students can wear next week to show spirit. We have fall pictures on Friday, October 6th, so students can bring Yellow Jacket spirit wear to change into after pictures if they would like for our Pep Rally on the playground with MVHS athletes, band members, and cheerleaders.

Make sure you check out the PTO Update with ways to volunteer and information about Mumkin pick-up on October 5th from 3-6 pm. Also, we have our 3rd grade performing in the Johnny Appleseed Festival on Friday, October 6th evening from 5:15-5:45.

Lastly, there are lots of other useful information about our new lunch menu, Coats for Kids, and Lost and Found items.

Homecoming Spirit Week

October 2-6th is MVHS Homecoming Week, and we are joining in the fun. Below, is our spirit week fun days! Also, MVHS athletes, band members, and cheerleaders will be joining us on our playground on Friday, October 6th, for a fun, pep rally!

Monday - Pajama day

Tuesday - Team Jersey Day

Wednesday - Wiggin Street Spirit Wear day

Thursday - Hat Day

Friday -Picture Day/Orange and black (students may bring Mount Vernon attire to change at lunch recess for the Pep Rally at 12:50)

Our next Friends of Wiggin Street meeting will be October 3rd at 5:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

Reminder Mumkin pick-up is Thursday, October 5th from 3:00-6:00pm on the school playground! We still need volunteers to help with the pick-up. Click on the link below for times needed.

Johnny Appleseed Festival

3rd Graders will be performing at the Johnny Appleseed Festival downtown Mount Vernon on the evening of October 6th.

Breakfast/Lunch Elementary Menu- New Look!

As you see below, the October menu looks different than in the past. Breakfast items are listed on the first line with lunch items below the breakfast for each date.

Please remember that milk is an extra purchase for packers and costs $0.50. Also, they can not purchase or receive free lunch items such as fruit. We do have a "share box" area for students to leave any unwanted items that are packaged and not opened for students that are still hungry.

Students are only allowed to take 1 serving of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables with each purchased lunch.

First Grade Apple Investigation

Students had to predict whether the apple would sink or float. You can see how amazed they were by the results in the center picture below!

Mrs. Wegmiller's Class Reward

Mrs. Wegmiller's 4th grade students earned a class reward today. They were able to bring a stuffed animal to hang out with for the afternoon.

Fire Safety Week Posters

3rd-5th grade students created posters in Art class this week for Fire Safety week. The Mount Vernon Fire Department is going to display the posters at their Fire Prevention Open House on October 12th and will select local winners. They will have a very difficult decision deciding on which posters they select to send to the State Fire Marshal. Winners for the state level will be notified in the Spring!

Lost and Found

Fall has arrived! Please remind your student to get their sweatshirts and jackets from lost and found. You can also submit this form to let us know what you are looking for, and we will do our best to get it to your child.

Remember that it is helpful to label all jackets, lunchboxes, bookbags, etc.

Morning Drop Off Safety Reminder

For those dropping off students in the morning, please do not get out of your vehicle. If your student needs assistance getting out of the vehicle, please pull off to the right side and walk them safely to the sidewalk.

Also, students are to walk in front of their car when exiting from the passenger side, so parents can watch for them. For this reason, please do not back up to go around a car. If you leave plenty of space between cars, you can go around if needed.

This is for the safety of all students, so that no one gets injured. Thank you!

Idle-free Zone

For pick up, please do not arrive until 3:30. There is no stopping, standing, or parking on E. Brooklyn St. allowed. Also, please reminder that our school is an Idle-free Zone. Protect our children and the community by turning off your engine.
