Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
We are inching closer to the start of the school year and look forward to seeing you at Sneak Peek, next Friday, August 23, 2024, at 2:00pm. More information is shared in the newsletter. As a reminder, classroom teacher assignments are slated to be shared on August 20, 2024 and the updated Family Handbook has been attached for your review.

NEWS & UPDATES
Family Sneak Peek on 8/23 - In Person
Self-Dismissal
K-5 students may self-dismiss or be dismissed with an older sibling if the "Self-Dismissal and Sibling Pick-up Permission Form" is signed and emailed to hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov.
School Dismissal
- Students are dismissed on the field most days
- During inclement weather, families will be instructed to pick their child up at a specific building door
- PreK Students dismiss at 3:15pm and are late being picked up at 3:20pm
- K-5 Students dismiss at 3:25pm and are late being picked up at 3:30pm
- Early dismissal ends at 2:50pm
- Families must get out of their cars to get their child, as teachers must be able to visually confirm each child is with the correct adult.
- Students enrolled in the aftercare program will be picked up by an aftercare staff member at their dismissal time
- Students who ride the JBAB or Jelleff buses will be escorted there at their dismissal time by a Hyde-Addison staff member
Please Note: If there are any changes to a child’s typical dismissal plan, parents email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov and the classroom teacher on the date of the change before 2:00pm.
Medications and Allergies
If your child needs to take medication or requires medical treatment during school hours, please have your medical provider complete the appropriate forms – there’s the Medication and Treatment Authorization Forms, the Asthma Action Plan and the Action Plan for Anaphylaxis. Please email forms to hyde.Addison@k12.dc.gov and ask them to be submitted to the nurse. We will confirm receipt.
If your child needs a dietary accommodation, your provider should also complete the Dietary Accommodations Form. Please submit the completed form to dietary.forms@k12.dc.gov and cc hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov.
DC Youth Meal Program (Until 8/25)
Hunger doesn’t take a summer break. From now until August 25th, youth 18 and younger have access to no-cost meals at over 100 sites across the city. No application or ID required.

DCPS ~ Celebrate the start of the school year with Back to School Day at RFK 8/23
Bring the whole family to celebrate the season at Back to School Day at RFK. From haircuts to school supplies, there will be everything your family needs to get ready for another great school year. Activations include book bags and school supplies giveaways, food, music, arcade, game truck, hair cuts, immunizations, food trucks and more.
- When: Friday, August 23, 12 pm – 4 pm
- Where: The Fields at RFK Campus (401 Oklahoma Avenue NE)
DCPS ~ Back to School Block Party 9/14

Reminder: First Day of School for SY 24-25
As a reminder, the first day of school for SY 24-25 is Monday, August 26 and the first day for Pre-K students is Thursday, August 29. The SY 24-25 calendar is available on the DCPS website.

School Arrival
The school day begins promptly at 8:35 AM and ends at 3:25 PM. Arriving on time to school is crucial for your child’s success, as it ensures they don't miss instruction and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day.
Please refer to the outlined arrival process timeline to help ensure a smooth and punctual start each morning:
- 8:00 AM: Family Supervised Play
- 8:10 AM: K-5 Breakfast
- 8:10-8:30 AM: Kiss and Ride
- 8:20 AM: PreK Arrival
- 8:30 AM: All K-5 Students Line Up for Arrival
- 8:35 AM: All Instruction Begins

Attendance Policy
Please notify the school every time your student is absent. Excuse notes must be emailed to hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov within 5 school days after the student’s return to school for the absence to be excused. (Classroom teachers cannot excuse absences.)
Prioritizing Attendance: DCPS Calendar for Planning
Attendance is a priority of DCPS and Hyde-Addison, as we know regular school attendance is integral to student success. Please find the DCPS calendar, linked here or at the dcps.dc.gov website, so that your family can plan events and vacations accordingly.

Create a parent portal [STEP 1]
a. Your parent portal will give you access to billing, scheduling and many more things that will assist you.

Ensure to have your REQUESTED SCHEDULE completed.
Ensure you fill out all 3 OSSE forms.
Ensure you fill out a separate form for each of your students.
Ensure there is contact information for primary and secondary payer (email and number).
Ensure you are putting your child/children grade on the enrollment form.
When finished please email a copy to CH002523@DISCOVERCHAMPIONS.COM.
Fall Enrichment Registration Update From Active Play
Dear Hyde Addison Families,
We’re thrilled to announce that over 200 participants are registered in Active Play enrichment programs for our inaugural season at Hyde this fall! Please note that registration for Fall(1) has closed, while registration for Fall(2) will remain open until the end of September. If any classes are unable to proceed due to low enrollment, we will notify registered participants via email by August 13th. Parents will have the option to transfer to another class or receive a refund. Please keep an eye out mid-August for a "Welcome Email" containing important information including pick-up and drop off details. We look forward to meeting you all and becoming a part of the Hyde community!
SY24-25 Enrichment Registration is Now Open!
We look forward to offering a wide range of enrichment programs to the Hyde-Addison student community starting the 2024-2025 academic year. In this document, you will find:

- A table of the Fall 2 enrichment schedule, including prices and class dates
- A link to our website here to view the descriptions of each enrichment program.

Registration opened on Friday, June 14 at 12pm and will be on a first-come first-serve basis. You must use the two distinct registration links on the website to register for both Fall(1) and Fall(2). If you do not yet have a TeamSnap account, you will be prompted to create one upon clicking on the registration link once it goes live on 6/14. Once your account is created, you will be asked to enter student information (student name, homeroom, allergies, etc) prior to being able to register for the class. Payment will be required to finalize registration.

Join Chancellor Ferebee and DCPS leadership on Thursday, August 22 at 6 pm for a virtual information session to learn important updates for the coming school year. DCPS Shared ~ Youth Sports Day @ The Fields at RFK (8/24)
Fight for Children is hosting Youth Sports Day on Saturday, August 24. This family-friendly event will showcase different youth programs available across the city, as well as games, free food, and haircuts. More details can be found here.
Washington Nationals Community Opportunity
Little big leaguers will love Family Fun Days with the Nationals. Kids can run wild in the Nationals Park Kids Zone, or during Kids Run the Bases after every Sunday game. Kids can watch batting practice from the field, meet the Racing Presidents, and get a free First Game Certificate. Plus, don’t miss story time sessions on select Sundays, where kids can listen to Nationals players read baseball-themed stories before the game. For more details, click here.

It’s our way of creating a virtual directory so you can connect with other families, including those in your child(ren)’s class(es) once school starts, ask for recommendations, volunteer for one time activities or on an ongoing basis, and keep up to date on events and activities happening at school! Family Newsletter Features
When you receive the family newsletter by email on Fridays, as well as most other school-wide correspondence, you have the option to click and view the newsletter in a web browser. Viewing the newsletter in a web browser enables automatic translation into over 20 languages as well as provides the option for increased visibility with high-contrast settings and increased font sizes.
Family Newsletters will continue to be archived on the Hyde-Addison website (https://hydeaddisondc.org/home) throughout the year for your reference.
Absences
Please be reminded to email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov to inform the team of your child's absence, in order for it to be excused. If your child has a communicable illness, like strep throat, RSV, pink eye, or lice, please also include that information.
