PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES - SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT
LIMITED CONFERENCE SLOTS STILL AVAILABLE
With the first marking period now complete, we are preparing for Parent-Teacher Conferences that will be held on Monday, November 21st and Tuesday, November 22nd. Conferences will be held IN-PERSON. Virtual conferences via Zoom will be available upon request for anyone needing this accommodation. Each appointment will be 15 minutes in length. While we very much enjoy meeting with parents, conferences at the middle school level are not required. Each team will have about 40 slots - while they teach well over 100 students. Please consider if there is a concern or issue that needs to be addressed. If so, please schedule a conference. If your child is thriving and they have had a successful first marking period, we ask that you consider leaving this slot open for another family.
For a conference with a special area, reading, or world language teacher, please contact those teachers directly to schedule a time to meet.
If you are unable to schedule a conference, please reach out to the grade level school counselor. They will be able to assist you with scheduling a time to meet with the teachers during the school day after Thanksgiving.
6th Grade Student & Family Thanksgiving Luncheon - LAST CALL FOR RSVP!
DON'T MISS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR AND WELL-ATTENDED EVENTS OF THE YEAR!
For the first time since 2019, we are thrilled to invite our families to attend the 6th Grade Student & Family Thanksgiving Luncheon. The event will be held on Friday, November 18th at 12:00 PM in conjunction with American Education Week. Our awesome cafeteria staff will be preparing a delicious Thanksgiving meal with all of the trimmings. We ask that families who plan to attend RSVP with payment using THIS FORM. Payment may be sent in with your child to their homeroom teacher. Due to space constraints - this is our largest 6th grade class ever - we must limit attendance to parents ONLY. We are unable to accommodate younger siblings. Please note that the Thanksgiving meal will be the only selection available for lunch for 6th grade students on that day.
AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK - PARENT VISITATION DAYS
American Education Week will be held during the week of November 14th thru 18th. This is an exciting opportunity for us to celebrate public education in the Rose Tree Media School District and to showcase our outstanding middle school. We invite parents to join us for a first-hand experience of our school. Visitation for parents and caregivers will be held on the following dates and times:
Grades 7 & 8 - Thursday, November 17th from 7:55 AM to 10:25 AM.
Grade 6 - Friday, November 18th from 7:55 AM to approximately 12:35 (end of luncheon)
Parents will sign-in upon arrival in the Main Lobby. If possible, please find out from your child their schedule so that you know the room number to which you are heading. We invite you to stay for as long or as little as your schedule allows within these established timeframes. We are excited to welcome you to The Lake!
Please note - We are unable to accommodate younger siblings for the classroom visitation.
TURKEY TROT VOLUNTEERS & DONATIONS NEEDED
The PTG is assisting the school with collecting turkeys for the raffle prizes, as well as with organizing volunteers for the event. Please consider donating a turkey and/or signing up to assist. All volunteers must have current volunteer clearances on file with Rose Tree Media School District.
FALL FUNDRAISER - PRODUCT PICK-UP ON 11/15
Thank you to everyone who supported our Fall fundraiser this year. The project was a HUGE success and Student Council is working on plans for how the funds raised will support projects and activities throughout the school year. Frozen products that you ordered will be delivered to Springton Lake on Tuesday, November 15th. The items will be available for pick-up in the cafeteria from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM. Depending upon the amount ordered, students may be able to carry the boxes home with them. If larger quantities are expected, we suggest that a parent meet the student in the cafeteria after school. Parents may park near the cafeteria and enter the building through those doors.
BOOK FAIR - THIS WEEK!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be coming to Springton Lake during American Education Week, November 14 - 18. Students will visit the fair with their language arts classes and may also stop by before school each day starting at 7:30 a.m. or after school on November 16th until 5:30 p.m. Check out the Book Fair page at THIS LINK for more information, including how to set up eWallet. Other forms of payment for the fair are cash, check made out to RTMSD, and credit card if you are planning to stop in at the fair on your visitation day or on Nov. 16th.
PTG MEETING - 11/15
The NEXT meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, November 15th from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The meeting will be held in the Library, and everyone is welcome to attend. If you have not yet made your donation to the PTG, it's not too late. Donations (cash of check payable to SLMS PTG) may be sent to the Main Office or families may donate online via PayPal.
The PTG also has volunteer opportunities. Are you available during the school day to run the School Store? If so, SIGN-UP HERE.

UPDATE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
We are seeing an increase in respiratory illnesses including the flu and reported COVID cases. There are a large number of students on the absence list and coming to school with multiple symptoms including cough, congestion, sore throats, and headaches. Any student with COVID-like symptoms should be tested before coming to school. If the test is positive, please notify the nurse and follow the district guidelines: Covid What Should I Do?
Please keep your child at home if they are not feeling well or experiencing symptoms that will interfere with their ability to learn. Please see the district guidelines When to Keep Your Child at Home
Please feel free to send your child in with chapstick and cough drops to carry with them throughout the day. Please do not send in medication with your child. Tylenol, Ibuprofen and Tums are available at the nurse's office with parent permission. All other medication, including over the counter medications, requires a doctor's order to be administered at school. The only medications that can be carried by students are inhalers and Epipens with a doctor's order on file with the nurse.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
