Family Update - February 16, 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPALS
Dear families,
Jones students who participated in the "Soup-er Bowl" donated over 180 cans of soup to help those in need. Thank you for your support of our service learning!
If you have a 7th grade student, please be aware that the IOWA test results were sent home with them on Thursday, February 13.
This week, UA Schools will be hosting two community engagement sessions for the facilities master planning process. This will be the first time the community gets a chance to see the initial draft planning options — ranging from repairing to renovating and rebuilding — for Hastings, Jones and Burbank. This is a critically important time in the master planning process. I know how busy everyone is, but I hope you can arrange to be at one of these sessions.
Tuesday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Arlington High School Amelita Mirolo Black Box Theater, 1625 Zollinger Road
Wednesday, February 19 at 9:00 a.m. at The Graf Center, 2020 Builders Place
On Friday, students from UAHS will be coming to our Advisory classes to facilitate an "Hour of Code." This is an annual tradition where our high school students share their learning and expertise in the area of computer science and engineering with our middle school students.
Warm regards,
Aimee White, Principal

PICS FROM THE WEEK
JONES WEEKEND UPDATE

UPCOMING SAFETY DRILL
We are going to complete a Safety Drill at Jones Middle School during the week of February 24th. We will work in cooperation with the Upper Arlington Schools Resource Officers, Upper Arlington Police Department and other safety officials to make the drill a success.
We will review expectations for the safety drill before it takes place. While students will know this is a drill, we take the safety and security of everyone involved very seriously. This safety drill is an important step to establish a safe, respectful and caring environment in our building. We encourage you to speak to your students, that if they see something, that they should say something to a staff member, SRO, cook, custodian or other trusted adult. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your support and helping us to make Jones a safe and kind place to be!
SUPPORTING STUDENTS DURING RAMADAN
Ramadan will begin on February 28 and last through March 29 this year. We understand that some aspects of the regular school day are more challenging for students who are fasting in observance of Ramadan. Please contact your student's school counselor if support is needed for your student during this time.
PARENT - TEACHER CONFERENCES
Our second evening conference opportunity is on Thursday, March 6th from 4pm-7:30pm. If your child’s teachers have concerns about the progress they are making, they will reach out to schedule a time with you. If you do not receive an invitation, your child is progressing as expected, and there are no concerns at this time. If you have questions, families are always welcome to communicate with teachers via email, as this is the quickest way to share information.

DISTRICT NEWS
Spring Break Food Distribution
Throughout February, families can sign up to receive groceries for the children in their household over spring break. The Tri-Village Packers, a group of community volunteers, coordinate this program. We would like to ensure every family who would benefit has an opportunity to register. Please see the linked flyer for more information.
TECH ASSISTANCE
iPad Parent Control Information
The UACS Technology department provides 2 ways for caregivers to manage screen time, review web history, manage apps and internet access after school hours. The typical built-in Apple ScreenTime and Parental controls do not work because the district manages iPads for school use at a district level - the typical consumer level settings are not available. Caregivers can review web activity and disable internet access through the Lightspeed Relay Parent Portal. Additionally, caregivers can control app access and set rules through the JAMF Parent app. Questions may be directed to FamilyTechHelp@uaschools.org.
