In Case You Missed It...
5th Graders Experience Democracy Firsthand in Classroom Election
Mr. Shannon’s 5th Grade Civics Class learned about the benefits of living in a democracy by being asked to vote for three fictional candidates who had ideas for revamping their educational setting. Each class was presented with candidates who had opinions on homework, recess, length of school day, voting age and lunch choices. They were then required to review each candidate, rate their lines and dislikes of each one and then debate the issues prior to filling out a voter registration card and casting their ballot in our classroom voting booth. The results of the election will be revealed at the end of the activity cycle.
Exploring America's Diversity: An ESL Research Project on U.S. States
As a way to promote cultural immersion, the ESL students did a research project on different states of the country. In our project, we learned about the Geography, Sociocultural and Economics of the state that the students chose. The students finalized their project by presenting their research to the class and by making the flag of the state they researched. As a side note, Mrs. Mederos was very kind to provide us with some books from the media center that helped the students to do their research project.
Character Counts!
Celebrating Our Community
Congratulations to our Staff Member of the Month!
This teacher creates a calm and supportive environment for her students. She is kind, helpful, and always respectful when addressing any issues in the classroom. Her welcoming nature makes her easy to approach, and when a student faces a problem, she does everything she can to help them work through it. She spreads positive energy and has a truly sweet and caring soul. She ensures her students have the supplies they need and sets them up for success, providing study guides and extra help when needed. She makes learning enjoyable, bringing laughter and fun to the classroom. That’s why Ms. Cornet, a caring 6th-grade teacher at ABIS, truly deserves to be staff member of the month!
