Principal's Corner
A Note from Mrs. Gregory
This week, Johnston County Schools recognized Smithfield-Selma High School's Leading with the Heart recipient Mrs.Tarsha McNeil. Mrs. McNeil is a dedicated professional with an upbeat and positive attitude and is a role model for us all both in and out of the classroom. She can be seen every day greeting students with a smile as they enter the building...and reminding them of the why of her hashtag #yourfavoriteteacher. For the adults, she is a go-to at SSS. She works closely with our International Staff and Beginning Teachers. She works to ensure that they have all the things that they need to be successful. She has guided our newest teachers through countless struggles and cheered them through their successes. She has a genuine heart for students and adults alike and cares deeply about the SSS community. She is always smiling, always encouraging, and always trying to make someone's day better. If there is an event happening at school, you can pretty much guarantee that Mrs. Mcneil is either present or found a way to support it during the planning processes. She shows up for our school and our students and does so wholeheartedly without complaint. She embodies the heart of our school. She is also a true leader and role model for those around her. Not only does she lead with the heart— she questions it. Mrs. Mcneil is constantly reflecting and accessing. She wants to be the best version of herself at all times. For those reasons and others, Mrs. McNeil is the Smithfield-Selma High schools winner for Leading with the Heart. Congratulations Mrs. McNeil.

Polar Plunge Success!
On Friday 2/23, a group of SSS students and adults went to the 2024 Cool Schools Polar Plunge in Greensboro in support of the Special Olympics. Our team raised over $2000 for Special Olympics North Carolina. Unified allows all of us to capture perspectives of those with and without intellectual disabilities. Special Olympic athletes and partners work alongside each other, as both groups of young people have so much talent to share. The students raised money by going door-to-door, working at a bake sale on a Saturday, made decisions for a group costume (which led to us winning the trophy for best dressed team), and created some amazing video content. Spartans Now, Unified Forever. Well done!

If you have college information that you plan to throw away or recycle, consider donating it to the AVID program for use in future college fairs. Donations can be dropped off at room 2203, Mrs. Brown’s room.
