Multicultural Day Coming Soon!
We are excited to announce that on May 5, 2025, McKenzie School will host a vibrant Multicultural Day celebration! Under the guidance of Ms. Katherine Martinez, our dedicated teachers and students will collaborate to create engaging displays that showcase the diverse cultures represented in our school community. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to share about a country they are interested in learning about or would love to visit someday.
Mrs. Speer has begun working with various classes to create beautiful artwork for this event. Our Kindergarten and first-grade students are crafting pandas to symbolize China, while second and third graders are designing decorated elephants to represent India. Many more countries will be highlighted through student art!
We invite all parents to join us for this special event filled with music and entertainment. Stay tuned for more details!
Technology
Mr. Higgins
Students in Technology class have started a unit on animation. They will learn how to create original animations using Google Slides. After completing their animations, students will share their completed projects with their classmates.
Spanish
Miss Martinez
¡Mucho progreso! In Spanish class, students are progressing towards proficiency! They are building on their knowledge from previous years of Spanish and using the language in and out of the classroom. In class, studentare learning Spanish through fun topics such as dinosaurs, fairy tales, clothing, pets, and fourth graders are even learning how to read an entire book in Spanish! As the end of the year gets near, we will continue learning the language through these familiar topics. I love watching our learners using the language in conversations with me in class and am excited to watch them grow into multilingual learners! Thank you for your support during this beautiful learning process!
Pre-K
Mrs. Schmidt, Miss Loesner, Miss Brown
Students recently completed their first author study of the year by exploring the works of child author, Laura Numeroff. Students read various texts such as “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” and “If you Give a Moose a Muffin”. During small group and center-based instruction, students matched beginning letter sounds using cookie and mouse picture cards and helped Moose count his blueberries during a mathematics lesson. Students even taste tested some of the character’s favorite foods. At the end of our author study, the students hosted “Pig’s Party” where students created decorations and invitations for the event, completed story related crafts and ate pancakes (pig’s favorite food). We look forward to
continuing these experiences during the remainder of the school year.

Exploring Plant and Animal Lifecycles!
This marking period in science, 3rd Grade, has been diving into the fascinating world of plant and animal life cycles. From tiny seeds sprouting into beautiful flowers to caterpillars transforming into butterflies, we are discovering how living things grow and change. Students have enjoyed discussing the different stages of these life cycles, learning all about the wonders of nature.
Problem Solvers in Action!
In addition to learning about lifecycles, our third graders are putting on their thinking caps to tackle a real-world problem — the overpopulation of mosquitoes! Through brainstorming sessions and collaborative discussions, students are coming up with creative ideas to protect our environment and our communities.
We are so proud of our young scientists for using their knowledge to find solutions that help others! Be sure to ask your child about their favorite mosquito-prevention tip!
