Message from the Principal
In Gratitude
πSoto Street Teachersπ
Soto Street Interventionists
I'm so fortunate to have these 2 wonderful Interventionists who bend over backwards to make sure that all instructional and operational needs are met. Mr. Servin and Ms. Gomez always bend over backwards!
Soto Street Parents
Grateful to all our parents who learned to adapt to the changing needs of the students. Safety is your number #1 1 priority, and at Soto Street is our #1 Priority too. And big shout out to our new 20 Parent Volunteers who are all in the process of becoming an official volunteers!
Ms. Bucio
Shout out to Ms. Bucio. Her sincere smile makes my day.
INSTRUCTIONAL UPDATES π
INSTRUCTIONAL UPDATES
Hot off the Press
100% of students completed their I-Ready & Dibels Assessments for the Beginning of the Year. We know EXACTLY how your child is performing, if they are above grade level, right where they need to be, or below grade level. We would love to share this information with you.
Parent Reports are Ready
We have generated a report for each family that includes a detailed report of how your child is performing. This will be available at the Principals Station at our Back to School Night on Wednesday. You don't want to miss getting this report. We look forward to seeing you Wednesday at 4pm in the Pavilion.
I-Ready, Set, GO
Now that BOY testing is done, let's get started with solid strong analytics. 45 minutes per week in ELA and Math. Your child has access to this at home. Please be sure they are loggin in and completing a few minutes a day in ELA and Math. This is directly linked to the increase in ability over time.
Soto Street Instructional FOCI
A reminder that our two academic foci is 1) student engagement in math discourse using math vocabulary. 2) Writing Opinion. Our visits all month will be focused in the TLF in those two areas.
How Can Parent help
1) Have students explain how they got to the answer. Most kids can say 4x2 is 8, but can they explain why and how.
2) Opinion: Students will be working all yearlong on written opinion pieces. The first step to gaining cofidence in this area is welcoming coversations around opinions. Everday ask them, what's your opinion on (insert topic).
Awards Assembly
On Monday, we will conduct our 1st Meets or Exceeds Award Assembly.
Grade levels, with their entire class, will be invited to attend and join parents in the celebration.
Students receiving the awards will sit in the front.
4th: 8:10, 5th: 8:45, 6th: 9:20
PLEASE BE ON TIME. We encourage all students to dress to impress.

2 1/2 YEAR AIR CONDITIONING PROJECT
As you know, we are in the midst of a 2 1/2 year project to install A/C new units. Each classroom has 2 portable units, but we know that this is NOT enough. I've requested for BLINDS to be installed in every classroom, with the priority being on the east side of the building. Additionally, we were finally approved to install solar wall paper stickers on the windows which was developed to reduce the heat brought in from the windows. I look forward to seeing if these changes help make each of your classrooms more comfortable. Please be in communication with me regarding issues with the project.
