Class of 2021 Graduations Moved to Evening
As a result of the governor’s updated executive order, outdoor graduation ceremonies for the class of 2021 will now be held in the evening so high schools can welcome more guests. Seniors will be receiving additional guest tickets so they can invite more family members and loved ones to this once-in-a-lifetime special celebration of our honored graduates.
Graduations will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1 for seniors from Boonsboro High School, Clear Spring High School, Hancock Middle Senior High School, North Hagerstown High School, Smithsburg High School, South Hagerstown High School, and Williamsport High School in their outdoor school stadiums.
In the event of inclement weather and a postponement of the ceremonies, graduations will be held at the same time the following day. WCPS anticipates making a decision to postpone by 5:00 p.m. the day of the event. Any postponement of graduation will be communicated with parents and guardians through a phone call, text message, and email. This information will also be posted on the WCPS website and social media platforms.
Washington County Technical High School:
Graduation will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at South Hagerstown High School for graduates of Washington County Technical High School. If South Hagerstown High School’s graduation is postponed, Tech High’s ceremony will also be postponed until 7:00 p.m. the day after South High’s graduation.
Barbara Ingram School for the Arts:
Graduation will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the ARCC at Hagerstown Community College. Because this is hosted in an indoor location, this celebration will be held rain or shine.
Marshall Street School/Job Development Program:
Marshall Street School/Job Development Program will hold its graduation ceremony as currently scheduled on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Marshall Street courtyard. In the event of inclement weather and a postponement of the ceremony, graduation will be held at the same time the following day.
Antietam Academy:
Antietam Academy will hold its graduation ceremony as currently scheduled on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at Antietam Academy. In the event of inclement weather and a postponement of the ceremony, graduation will be held at the same time the following day.Additional Guest Tickets for Graduation
WCPS is pleased to announce each graduate will now receive a total of eight (8) guest tickets for graduation.
This may reduce the ability for guests to maintain six-feet distancing from individuals outside their household. At this time, WCPS will still be requiring all graduates and their guests to wear face coverings over the nose and mouth while on school property. As graduates cross the stage and receive their diplomas, they will be able to remove their masks for pictures.
In-person Learning Day on June 1 for High Schools
It was previously announced that Tuesday, June 1, 2021 would be a virtual learning day for high school students to accommodate daytime graduations.
June 1 is now a normal school day for all high school students as graduation ceremonies will be held in the evening.
Other Events
Students, families, and staff are eager to celebrate the achievements of our students through this extraordinary school year. Other events and ceremonies across our schools will continue to be held outside and have limited attendance to allow for smaller gatherings with six-feet physical distancing and masking. Under the current guidelines, school buildings are open only to students and WCPS staff.
Last Day of School for Students
As a reminder, Maryland law requires students to attend 180 days of instruction. The last day of school for underclassmen students this school year is Monday, June 7, 2021, and there will be a two-and-a-half hour early dismissal that day. Final report cards will be mailed to homes after grades are entered and reviewed.
