A Message from Our Principal
Dear Farnham Families,
We are thrilled to share that the front of our school will be receiving a beautiful landscaping update over the next two weeks! During this time, we kindly ask that everyone avoids the areas being landscaped to ensure the safety of all and to allow the work to progress smoothly.
Additionally, we are hosting a volunteer opportunity on Monday, January 20th to help clean up our garden (see flyer below). It’s a wonderful chance to come together as a community and enhance our outdoor spaces for our students. If you’re interested in joining, please see more information below—we’d love your support!
Farnham Elementary is excited to participate in the Great Kindness Challenge, that starts next week. It will be a two week-long event dedicated to fostering a culture of kindness and compassion on our campus. During this special week, students and staff will engage in a variety of activities designed to promote acts of kindness, build connections, and create a positive school environment. From small gestures like writing notes to larger community-building projects, we look forward to spreading kindness throughout our school and beyond. Together, we can make a difference through simple, meaningful actions!
Thank you for your cooperation and involvement as we continue to make Farnham an even more welcoming and inspiring place for our students to learn and grow.
Be well,
Amy O'Hehir
Farnham Principal

Stay Safe: Walk and Bike Without Distractions
Walking and biking are fun and healthy ways to get around, but staying safe means paying attention. Being distracted, like looking at your phone or wearing headphones, can be dangerous when you are near traffic. Here are some important tips to keep in mind:
Walking Safely
Make Eye Contact: Before crossing the street, make eye contact with drivers. This helps ensure they see you and are ready to stop.
Look Both Ways: Always look left, right, and left again before crossing.
Stay Alert: Avoid using your phone, texting, or listening to loud music while walking near roads.
Use Crosswalks: Cross at crosswalks or intersections where drivers expect pedestrians.
Biking Smart
Ride with Traffic: Bicycles are considered vehicles under the law. Always ride on the right side of the road, going in the same direction as traffic.
Be Visible: Wear bright clothing and use lights or reflectors, especially at night.
Follow the Rules: Obey traffic signs and signals just like cars do.
Stay Focused: Keep both hands on the handlebars and your eyes on the road. Avoid using phones or listening to music while riding.
Remember: Cars are often moving faster than they seem, so do not assume it is safe to cross or merge. Stay alert, be seen, and follow the rules to keep yourself and others safe on the road!

Parent Opportunities
Living with Teens and Social Media Thursday, January 16 | 5:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. ET (One-hour live webinar | Free but registration required) Teens have always pushed boundaries—it's part of growing up. But today's families are increasingly concerned about what they can't see as easily: their teens' tech and social media use. While risky behaviors are developmentally normal, today's challenges are unique. As parents, how can we protect our teens and manage their mistakes, especially when it comes to technology? In this live webinar, Common Sense's Sue Thotz will be joined by Dr. Lisa Damour and Christopher Pepper for an insightful conversation on how social media intersects with the teen experience. They'll share practical, time-tested strategies and tips to help you navigate the risks of constant online presence and support your teen in this digital age. This webinar is ideal for parents and caregivers with kids who use social media, but everyone is welcome. All questions submitted at registration will be shared with the panelists, and there will also be a live chat.
Can't make it live? You can still register to receive the recording afterward.
Free Online Courses
The Cambrian School District is proud to collaborate with Fresno State University to offer free online courses for our parent community. This innovative partnership focuses on building community capacity through engagement, involvement, and professional development. Through these courses, participants are empowered to explore new socioeconomic opportunities, equipping them with skills to contribute meaningfully to their families, schools, communities, and beyond. Together, we are fostering a stronger, more resilient community.
Registration for Spring 2025 courses (starting in February and March) are now open for registration. For more detail information about the courses and how to register, please click on the following resources below:
Cambrian School District is pleased to offer all students complimentary snack at morning recess and lunch meals at lunch recess. Meals will be available for pickup in the cafeteria during scheduled meal periods. Please consider taking advantage of our FREE school meals by clicking here and signing up. It extends your grocery budget, saves time planning and preparing meals, and is comforting and familiar for kids to have school meals. In addition, every meal served is reimbursed by the USDA and funds go toward Child Nutrition staff wages. Please note that you are not taking food away from someone who needs it more – we have plenty to go around!
