8th Grade Parents - you are so close to having a high school student! Here are some important dates coming up -

April - HS counselors will come to campus to talk about next year's schedule

Thursday, May 1 - GenTx Day; 8th Grade students will tour the high school.

Friday, May 9 - 8th Grade Field Trip to Six Flags

Wednesday, May 21, 1:30 PM - 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony @ LVMS Upper Gym

• Here are some important dates for the Spring Semester...it goes by so fast!

• April 8th: 6th Grade RLA STAAR

• April 10th: 7th and 8th Grade RLA STAAR

• April 15th: 8th Grade Science

• April 17th: 8th Grade Soc St

• April 23rd: 6th Grade STAAR, 7th Grade Math

• April 24th: 8th Grade Math, Algebra I (LVMS) STAAR

Our track teams competed at our 10th annual Lago Vista Relays Invitational on Wednesday, March 12th. Our athletes competed extremely well with many PRs throughout the night. We are very proud of the hard work and effort shown! As soon as we have the results, we will send out more specifics about each event. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help!

Lost & Found - Please remember to ask your child to check the Lost & Found. We have lots of jackets that have been turned in since the weather has gotten colder and also lots of water bottles of all shapes and sizes!

Absences - If your child is going to be leaving from school anytime during the school day because of a doctor/dentist visit, you are welcome to take a picture of the note and send it to our nurse/attendance clerk @ tharkins@lagovistaisd.net

Also, if you have a child at home sick, you may send an email to her to let her know so she can mark them on the day of their absence.

School Stickers - If you are wanting to show your school pride on your vehicle, we have three different designs of LV stickers. Just ask for Monica and bring $5 cash for each sticker you would like.

We encourage all parents to log into your Parent Portal at any time and set up alerts. Follow the directions and screenshots below.

Once you are logged into your Parent Portal, go to the upper right hand corner of your screen and click on the "bell".

You will then click on the View/Set Alerts.

Click on the Set Alerts to go to the menu to set alerts for grades, assignments and attendance.

Our goal in Lago Vista ISD is to ensure that every student benefits as much as possible from the great teaching and learning that happen here every day. When your child misses school, they miss out on learning opportunities that simply can't be replicated. That's why this year, we are encouraging all parents to help our students "Strive for 5!" — aim for five or fewer missed days for your child this school year. Of course, if your child is sick, please keep them home. However, we ask that you try to plan vacations and other activities around our school calendar to minimize the loss of valuable instructional time.

In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.

We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Reminder - any student who is either using or in possesion of an e-cigarette(vape) of any type is an automatic DAEP(Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement) sentence.

HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.

Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
