🎺🎵Celebrating Wylie’s Pure Gold Band! 🎵🎷
We’re thrilled to share some amazing news about three outstanding students from the Wylie Pure Gold Band: Lathen Barr, Lincoln Humphries, and Maddox Humphries! These talented musicians have been selected to perform with the prestigious Texas All-State Band at the 2025 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention. This incredible event will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio.
Being named a Texas All-State musician is the highest honor a Texas music student can achieve, and our Pure Gold stars earned this distinction through a rigorous and highly competitive audition process. Out of 70,000 students across the state who began this journey, only the top 2.6% made it to the All-State ensembles.
Here’s what makes this achievement even more special:
- Lathen Barr, a phenomenal tuba player taught by John De La Garza, celebrates his second time in this prestigious group.
- Lincoln Humphries will represent Wylie for the first time, showcasing his skill on the bassoon under the guidance of Carolyn Garcia.
- Maddox Humphries, an accomplished alto saxophonist mentored by Guy Gamble, will make his second All-State appearance.
- Fun fact: Lincoln and Maddox are twins, making this achievement a double dose of Pure Gold pride!
Their hard work, talent, and dedication will shine on one of the biggest stages, where they’ll rehearse and perform under the direction of nationally recognized conductors. These concerts are the highlight of the nation’s largest music educators’ convention, with over 30,000 attendees from across Texas and around the globe.
Let’s cheer for Lathen, Lincoln, and Maddox as they represent Wylie ISD with pride, inspiring the next generation of musicians in our community! 🐾🎶
Stay tuned for more updates as we celebrate this incredible milestone together!
Healthy Habits Take Center Stage
Hendrick paid a special visit to Wylie East Elementary, bringing fun, energy, and valuable lessons about living a healthy lifestyle. The event was a hit, with Hendrick using songs, skits, and interactive questions to engage the students. The kids eagerly participated, answering Hendrick's questions with enthusiasm and showing off their knowledge about health and wellness.
The highlight of the day? A surprise visit from the beloved bears themselves! Brother Bear and Sister Bear made a grand entrance, which received a loud pop from the audience. The duo had everyone singing along and joining in as they acted out scenes narrated from their book. With every song and dance, the bears shared important tips for a healthy life, from brushing teeth to understanding the food pyramid and the importance of washing hands to keep germs away.
Laughter and learning filled the room, and the students left inspired to make healthy choices. The event was made even more special with the new hats—thank you, Hendrick, for your generosity and creativity!
A Journey to Africa at Wylie West Elementary!
Students at Wylie West Elementary went on an unforgettable adventure with Elizabeth Kahura, who brought Africa to life through an interactive lesson filled with music, dancing, and culture. From learning Swahili greetings like "Jambo" (hello) to embracing the spirit of "Hakuna Matata" (no worries), the kids were immersed in the rich traditions of Africa.
Elizabeth’s energetic teaching, complete with vibrant stories and hands-on activities, captivated the students and left them inspired. A big thank you to Elizabeth and her Safari Program for sharing this enriching experience!
