A message from the Family Ambassador at CAHS
My name is Deborah Showalter and I am the Family Ambassador at Columbus Alternative High School. I wanted to give you a few details regarding CAHS prospective students that you could pass along to your 8th graders. Let me also say that I am a huge fan of students following their pathways and staying at their neighborhood high schools! However, if you know of students who would be interested in some of the options CAHS offers the district such as certain AP course offerings, International Baccalaureate Program, and the Wednesday internships for juniors/seniors, they are more than welcome to check it out. It is a lottery school, located in North Linden, open to all students. It is possible for students to attend CAHS and still participate in sports at their neighborhood school.
We have 2 prospective student nights coming up for 8th graders called Future Pegasus Nights on Monday, December 16 and Tuesday, January 28. Families can check out this link below for more information and also to register for a specific timeslot. We also will be holding some Q&A zoom calls in the coming weeks and I will let you know about those when they are scheduled.

The Hotline will direct them to a locations that has beds available, they cannot just show up. These are safe warm places with less restrictions than traditional shelter and the population is smaller ~ 30 to 40 beds/cots. Couples stay together and are not separated, and two locations have space to board a limited number of pets. The Northside warming center is address not listed because it is housed in a hotel.

CCS TESTING & ASSESSMENT GUIDE FOR CAREGIVERS
From the School Nurse
Please remember that if your child is going to take any prescription medications at school (including inhalers or epi-pens, even if they have approval to carry it themselves, or over the counter medications that will be kept in the nurses office and administered by the nurse or other trained staff) that we need the medication authorization form filled out completely and signed by the prescriber and a parent/guardian.
We love that our students are active, but that sometimes means they get injured. If that happens and your student is returning to school with some sort of cast, etc., please let your school nurse know. If they will need crutches, we need the "Release to Return to School" form completed by the health care provider. If your student is unable to put any weight on an injured foot/ankle/leg, they are not allowed to return to school until they can at least "toe touch" for balance. Those dates will be excused, but you need to let us know so we can try to help them keep up with school work and transition back to school.
As always, please call your school nurses, Michelle Treaster, or Rana Shaheen, with any questions or concerns.
