5. Ceramics and Character Strong lessons go together
What a creative year we've had learning about Ceramics and Character Strong!
Every student in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade completed 3 projects this year:
Pinch Pots in the Fall
Ornaments/Wall Hangings in the Winter
Keychains in the Spring
Keychains were made starting in March to celebrate the Character Strong trait of the month: COOPERATION. Students at Sam Hughes worked together to make different parts of the keychains. Each completed keychain represents the collaborative efforts of our student CREW working together to make one special item. Please look for packaged keychains being sent home over the next few weeks. For more details or questions email: Meghan.Korman@tusd1.org
Ecology News
In 3rd grade we're talking about flower parts and pollinators. A big shout out of thanks to our third graders for planting and watering these plants in their flower boxes all year long! We will collect the seeds so next year's third graders can tend these same plants.
New Floors means No Summer Programs at Sam Hughes
The flooring project for the whole school means, there will be new floor throughout the campus for next fall. But it also means that we will NOT be having summer programs at Sam Hughes this summer. Parents who wish to enroll their child in a traditional summer program at school will need to explore opportunities at nearby schools.
The attached file is a City of Tucson Summer Camp Sports - Activity flyer which offers 1/2 day, Full Day, and additional After Care for children ages are 6-17. These are weekly sessions from May 27th -August 2nd. Not a TUSD sponsored or endorsed program.
Information for adults bringing students to school
Parents, Grandparents, Guardians – please make sure that if you arrive after 8:40am that you check your student in at the office and we will escort them, if necessary, to class. Once school starts parents should not be escorting students to class as this causes disruption to the start of class. In addition, parking on the south side of the school is reserved for staff members – please make sure you are not lingering in this area. There is more space to drop off students on the north side of the playground.

Families- we need your help!
CREW we need your help with students getting picked up early at the end of the day. There are many transitions that occur in the last 10-15 minutes of our instructional day and it can be challenging the the front office to make contact with classroom teachers as they are concluding their time with their classes.
If you need to pick up your student early, please make arrangements to come prior to 2:35pm so that we are readily able to call for your student with minimal disruption to the class' end of day procedures.
Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.
Reminders!
Refillable Water Bottles are Needed for Students Each Day
Thank you for sending a refillable water bottle with your student each day. Water fountains are available for students to refill their water bottles as needed. We are encouraging students to stay well hydrated, especially with the temperatures as high as they have been.
Please be sure your student's name is clearly labeled on the bottle, thank you!
Lost and Found
Calling all CREW- Student Council would like to see the items returned to their owners, so they will be placing everything on tables on the playground near the 5th grade portables every Friday. Please check out the table of items and see if you can be reunited with your jackets, clothing items, lunch boxes, and water bottles!
Thank you to our Student Council CREW!!
