CURRICULUM NIGHT IS TOMORROW, SEPTEMBER 5TH AT KILGOUR
What is Curriculum Night? We thought you'd ask that question. Soooo, we consulted "The" Google and here's the best description we could find:
"Curriculum night is an educational open house by grade, that takes place at the beginning of the school year for parents to receive critical information that will benefit your child's learning throughout the year."
You can expect information from your child's teacher on what and possibly when they will be taught new skills throughout the year.
Now that we got the what, let's talk about the when and how. Curriculum Night will take place tomorrow, Thursday, September 5th from 5p - 6:30p and be broken down into three 20 minute sessions. This will allow for parents that have multiple mustangs to make the rounds. 1st and 2nd grade sessions will take place in your child's classroom. Grades 3- 6 sessions can be found in the grid below.
Sessions times are as follows:
Session 1: 5p - 5:20p
Session 2: 5:30p - 5:50p
Session 3: 6p - 6:20p
Notice that there's a 10 minute transition time built into the night. This is to again accommodate parents that need to attend multiple sessions.
Alright, time to wrangle it all in... we know what Curriculum Night is, we know how the sessions will flow... soooooo when is it again???
Curriculum Night is tomorrow, Thursday, September 5th from 5p to 6:30p.
Psssssssst... THIS PART IS SUPER IMPORTANT AND A CHANGE TO INFORMATION YOU MAY HAVE PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED FROM PRINCIPAL COOK-FRAZIER.
The schedule has been revised to remove the Kindergarten team from the schedule as our Kindergarten orientation was held in August prior to school starting.
As a result, our Kindergarten teacher team will be communicating with Kindergarten parents additional information on Ohio Kindergarten standards as well as information on scheduling 1st quarter conferences.
Kindergarten parents please contact your child's teacher with any questions.
SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH
September marks the start of the school year and a change in pace from summer break. Attendance plays a large part in your child's success! Each week this month there will be information about the importance of attendance, as well as resources for you to access, statistics to learn, and information to absorb. To start us off, here is a simplified outline of CPS's attendance policy as decided by the State of Ohio (here is Ohio's official Attendance Guide). A hard copy of this was sent home in Tuesday folders. We are excited to conclude Attendance Awareness Month with a spirit week September 16-20!

The annual Silent Auction is Kilgour PTA’s biggest fundraiser and largest “not-to-be-missed” social event. It’s a highly anticipated adult-only social event to celebrate with our community, teachers and families outside of school. There will be hors d'oeuvres, music with returning DJ Scott Hoverman (3rd and 6th grade parent), a cash bar, and many amazing must-have auction items to bid on.
NEW THIS YEAR:
- Field access at TQL Stadium
- Designated zones for mingling with parents by grade
- Live auction of classroom creations
EARLY BIRD TICKET PRICING
Tickets to the Silent Auction are available at the early bird price of $45 each through Friday, Sept. 20. Pricing increases to $60/ticket on Saturday, Sept. 21, so don’t wait to buy!
Battle of the Streets: Get with the families on your street (or a group of smaller streets) to put together a basket for the auction. Basket ideas are due by Sept. 15. You can submit information here. The street that donates the basket fetching the highest bid gets bragging rights until next year.
Class Creations: This year, each grade will be auctioning off a bouquet of gift cards resting in a custom decorated flowerpot made by the kids with the assistance of our art teacher, Ms. McMullen. Please consider donating a gift card – any amount, any establishment. Or you can donate cash. Gift cards and cash should be sent to your child’s teacher in an envelope marked “Class Creations” no later than Sept. 23. You can also Venmo a donation to @kilgourpta noting it is for Class Creations.
We’re still accepting donations to the auction – submit details here. And we’re looking for volunteers for before and during the event. Sign up here.

IS YOUR STUDENT INTERESTED IN KILGOUR'S FALL CHOIRS?
We have two choirs, a Primary Choir (grades K-2) and an Intermediate Choir (grades 3-6) that are open to all. The Intermediate Choir rehearses on Tuesday mornings from 820a-9a and the Primary Choir rehearses on Fridays from 820a-9a, both beginning the week of September 23rd. There is a schoolwide and community-wide concert at the end of each semester as well as Luminarium Caroling in partnership with the Mt. Lookout Community Council. The fee is $5 per student, per semester.
If your child would like to sign up for choir, please use the link below and fill out the Google form.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mr. Houston at houstow@cps-k12.org.
SIGN UP TO BE INCLUDED IN THE KILGOUR SCHOOL-WIDE ELECTRONIC DIRECTORY
Hello Kilgour Community! We are creating separate grade-level electronic directories to facilitate communication for non-school related events and activities, such as playdates, birthday parties, etc. After the "due date", a link and PDF for each grade-level directory will be shared with folks who opted in.
Important: If you have multiple Kilgour students and are opting in, please fill out one form for each student.
Because this directory is being implemented by fellow parent volunteers, please help us out by doing the following:
- Input each child just one time. This makes cleaning up the excel files less time consuming.
- Enter all information exactly as you'd like it to appear. We will not be able to review all entries and correct typos.
- Understand that the September 13th deadline is firm.
Due Date Extended: September 13th
Click ---> I WANT TO BE IN THE DIRECTORY
Thank you!
If you have questions, please email kilgourroomparent@gmail.com

KINDERGARTEN SOCCER KICKS OFF THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH
Program Overview
- Dates: Friday Evenings, September 6th thru October 18th
- Time: 6:00 – 7:00 PM
- Place: Kilgour Soccer Field
Gear
Your young athlete will need a size-3 soccer ball, shin guards and athletic shoes to participate. The shin guards should be covered with socks. Soccer cleats are not required at this age. This year we will be providing your child with a Kilgour soccer shirt they will be expected to wear for each Friday night session so we can equally divide the kids in separate groups. Please indicate the shirt size for your child when you register. Children cannot participate if they have casts or are wearing jewelry.
Details
This is an informal program to introduce young children to the basics of soccer during several one-hour sessions on Friday evenings. The program will include skill building exercises, running, games and short-sided scrimmages. Parents are encouraged to stay at the field to observe the activities, assist as needed, and socialize with other Kindergarten parents.
Kilgour School has a wonderful soccer program affiliated with the Soccer Association for Youth (SAY); however, Kindergarteners do not start participation in the SAY program until the Spring season, so this introduction is intended to get children ready for SAY soccer. This program is not affiliated with SAY Soccer.
The main emphasis is to have FUN. The idea of the program is to give children a love for an organized athletic activity. In addition, we help them to learn to respect coaches and referees. Although soccer can be quite competitive, this program is not. There will not be games against other schools. The goal is to be able to play a full field scrimmage by the last day. We will not keep score.
If you have any questions please reach out to Sarah Roche and Justin Dobbs at kilgourboyssoccer@gmail.com.
