Greetings Panthers!!
I hope that you've had a wonderful weekend!! Please listen carefully for this weeks updates and reminders. This week is Red Ribbon Week! Every October, OCPS pledges to educate our students about the dangers of drug use and abuse. Each year, Red Ribbon Week is celebrated from October 23rd -October 31st. The 2024 theme is Life Is A Movie, Film Drug Free. TM. At school, students will engage in activities that promote a drug free and healthy lifestyle. Please partner with us and discuss this message at home, at the dinner table, at family outings, and with friends and extended family. Ask your child to show you the flyer he/she received from school about Red Ribbon Week®
This week's spirit week is as follows:

This Thursday, October 24th at 9:30am, we will be having the Mental Health Workshop that was rescheduled due to Hurricane Helene. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Mental Health services available for OCPS students and families, meet the Mental Health Services Team and learn more about resources available off campus. Breakfast will be served.
Panthers, this is the final week to support our Phillis Wheatley PTA by pre-ordering Krispy Kreme donuts. The deadline for pre-orders is October 22nd. Donuts will be available for pickup or delivered to your scholar on Friday, October 25th. Please return your order form with payment (exact cash or by CashApp) no later than Tuesday, October 22nd!
Lastly, this Friday, September 25th, is a makeup day for Hurricane Milton. School will be OPEN this Friday.
As always, thank you so much for your support and for all that you do for the scholars at Phillis Wheatley ES. We look forward to seeing our scholars bright and early tomorrow morning by 8:15am.
Sincerely,

Honesty
Definition: Telling the truth & being authentic.
Quote: “A bright future beckons. The onus is on us, through hard work, honesty and integrity, to reach for the stars.” - Nelson Mandela, From Freedom to the Future
Strategies:
Teach your child about the importance of telling the truth.
List two ways to rebuild trust after being dishonest.
Remind your child that your authentic self is the best version of yourself.
Help your child to pause to think about the consequences before choosing whether or not to tell the truth.
Discussion Questions:
Should you be honest with people even if it hurts their feelings? Why or why not?
Are the people that you meet online always honest? How do you know if they are being honest?
