Happenings at the Hive
December 6, 2024
Dear Solon Stinger Families,
The holiday season is in full swing, and the excitement is all around us! From cheerful decorations to spirited classroom activities, this is such a magical time of year in elementary school. Amidst the fun and festivities, we remain focused on making these next two weeks count with meaningful learning for our students.
A special thank-you goes out to all of our families for your incredible generosity during this season of giving. Your monetary contributions and item donations to our Angel Tree initiative have been heartwarming and impactful. Through donations, Festive Friday collections, and the ParentSquare sign-up for additional items that went out on Monday, you have shown kindness and care that will brighten the holidays for our Solon families. Just a quick reminder: all donations are due by Friday, December 13th. Your support truly makes a difference, and we are so grateful for you!
As we enjoy these last two weeks before winter break, let’s keep the energy high and spirits bright. Together, we’ll create a balance of joyful celebrations and purposeful learning that ensures every child feels engaged, supported, and inspired.
Thank you for being such an integral part of our Solon Robinson community. We’re so lucky to have you as partners in your child’s educational journey. Let’s finish the year strong and filled with cheer!
Yours in learning,
The Solon Robinson Elementary Team

- These are only the overall grade for a class. To see detailed information about each assignment, you will need to log in to your parent Buzz account, which is accessed through a link in PowerSchool.
If you need guidance for navigating Buzz, please see our September newsletter with Parent Buzz Account information.

What's Happening in STEM?
Greetings from STEM! Our students have been very busy these past few months learning how to build systems in SAM Labs. We’ve built automated traffic light systems and an automated storm sound progression simulation in grades 3, 4, and 5.
Kindergarten learned about using the sun’s light and energy to melt items while finding out how a light sensor can detect the amount of light around us. Kindergarten is learning all about weather patterns this week and will build a system in SAM Labs to give a weather forecast.
Grade 1 learned all about Morse Code and built a distress signal using both sound and light. Grade 1 is learning about lunar phases this week and will build a system in SAM Labs to represent the sun’s reflection on the moon.
Grade 2 learned about how sea turtles use the sun’s energy to keep warm. They then built a working model of a current to help sea turtles migrate. This week, Grade 2 is learning all about earthquakes and will build a system in SAM Labs to simulate the movement of tectonic plates. We’ve had classes that created a float for a mock Thanksgiving Day parade and built a trap for a turkey!
I can’t wait to see all the awesome STEM projects we create in the future!

December Beekeeper of the Month :: BRAVE
The character trait for the Beekeeper of the Month is BRAVE. We sent home a Beekeeper in Action Worksheet & Coloring Page earlier in the week to help you bring the character trait conversation into your home. Help us teach our awesome students about being BRAVE.
