Major's Minute
The Salvation Army National Website shares about National Salvation Army Week.
National Salvation Army Week Has Been Around Since 1954
In 1954, the week of November 28-December 4 (now recognized in May) was declared by the United States Congress and proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to be the first National Salvation Army Week, as a reminder to Americans to give freely of themselves.
In his speech, President Eisenhower said:
“Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of human brotherhood. In time of war, the men and women of this organization have brought to those serving their country far from home, friendliness and warm concern. In the quieter days of peace, their work has been a constant reminder to us all that each of us is neighbor and kin to all Americans. Giving freely of themselves, the men and women of The Salvation Army have won the respect of us all.”
In the 70 years since, we have continued to do the most good for local communities and broadened our services to those that couldn’t be conceived in ’54.
Did you know that you as Salvation Army soldiers, adherents, attendees, employees, and volunteers with Salvation Army officers are all part of this great work that God is doing through the Salvation Army? When we I read "friendliness and warm concern" I know that is the love for God pouring out into the community.
However, often times people don't get it. Don't get why we do what we do. To be honest with you, I think that sometimes we all forget why we do what we do and what we should be doing.
Matthew 26:16-20: The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Our Mission Statement.
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
As we've been called by God, let's continue to lead others to Him.

Are you ready for a life-changing retreat, full of worship, fellowship, fun and learning? We are delighted to tell you that it is time to register for Anthem!
What is Anthem?
Anthem is a week-long event for young adults, ages 18 - 28, that gives space for participants to explore the story of Jesus and learn how it intertwines with their own stories and the stories of others. Anthem is more than an event; it’s a safe place for young adults to experience community and discover what it means to live out the story of Jesus in their own lives.
This year, the focus will be on Stories of Grace from the scriptures and from hearing each other’s.

Remember Oscar? He's asking for help!
I am so excited to announce that I have the opportunity to serve APU this year in the Dominican Republic! I will be leading the team this year, which I am very excited about!
My team and I will be in the Dominican Republic from May 6th to June 4th, serving alongside Kids Alive International. My team has the opportunity to serve in Kids Alive schools throughout our time in the Dominican Republic, serving lower-income children and families. We will participate in teaching English, AWANA, math, art classes, sports ministry, various projects, and so much more. I am ecstatic to take this opportunity to serve the kingdom of God.
I cannot do this alone, so I would love it if you could consider partnering with me in prayer for my team, the trip, and Kids Alive; that would be amazing! Also, would you consider partnering with me financially? This trip is $3550, and I am confident the Lord will provide for me and my team to be confident in our YES to the Dominican Republic. There are two ways you can support me and my team financially! There is a link in my Instagram bio, and you can also click the link below, which will take you to the page where you can donate! You can also Venmo me at @Oscar-Sanchez-526. Your prayers and donations mean the world to me, and I could not have done this without you and your continuous support and love!
I have also attached some graphics below for you to share with your friends and your churches. It would mean a lot to me if you could spread the word to everyone and let them know about this amazing opportunity and how they can support it!
