Good afternoon parents and caregivers,

The cold winter mornings have certainly been the norm this week as we shivered through our first week of winter weather. After a long term, the countdown is on for school holidays!

Thank you to staff, students and parents who joined me at St Anthony of Padua Parish, Wanneroo on Sunday, June 16 to celebrate their 92nd Annual Festival and Procession. St Elizabeth’s community joined with Mater Dei College, St Anthony’s School and the parish to form a celebratory procession. It was lovely for our schools to walk behind a united banner.

As part of celebrating St Anthony of Padua we held our Servite House Day on Thursday. The day started with a wonderful Assembly led by our Year Six Servite leaders. They spoke about the Servite Order and that both Father Peter and Father Leonard are part of this order. The order was founded in 1213 by seven men who devoted themselves to Mary and committed to a life of service. They were known as the ‘Order of Mary’. One of our school values is service and links perfectly to Servite. This year, selected students from Kindergarten to Year Six were recognised as doing outstanding service for our community with a special certificate. After the assembly, students took part in service activities around the school with their buddy class. and at the parish. On top of that, all students were able to wear blue to school and invited to donate a can of soup or food to support the St Anthony of Padua Parish and the local St Vinnies Wanneroo as part of the Winter Food Appeal 'Meal in a Can'. Mr Turner, President of St Vinnies Wanneroo was thrilled with our donations and let me know that this will feed over 200 families. Well done to everyone involved in Servite Day, in particular the Servite staff who organised the day.

Congratulations to a number of selected students who participated in the Interschool Cross Country today. Yet again, our students shone with their competitive nature and outstanding sportsmanship that they demonstrated throughout the day. Thank you to Mr Rebeiro, Mr Fitzgibbons and our parent helpers for assisting on the day.

Finally, all students from Year One to Year Six will be bussed to St Anthony’s of Padua church to celebrate the end of term with a school mass on Friday, June 28. We will be joined by the students from St Anthony’s with mass beginning at 9am. Parents and families are welcome to attend.

Over the last two weeks we have been busily reading all student Mid-Year Reports in preparation for these to be released on Thursday, 27 June. It is highly evident that since the beginning of the year, students have been working hard in class to apply the feedback provided by teachers to continue to grow in their learning. All of your children need to be congratulated on their growth this semester. Below is some information to assist you to understand your child’s report.

We hope this information assists you to understand the reporting process at St Elizabeth's CPS. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s teacher.

Understanding Your Child’s Report

Parents will receive two formal academic reports this year: The report you receive in July is called a 'Mid-year Report.' In December you will receive the 'End of Year Report.'

July – Mid-Year Report

This report provides parents with a ‘snapshot in time’ of how their child is progressing in relation to the end of year Achievement Standard for each learning area for their year level. The grade provided is taking into account the curriculum which has been taught and assessed to that point in time.

December – End of Year Report

This report provides parents with an overview of how their child has progressed, across the entire year, in relation to the end of year Achievement Standard for each learning area for their year level. The grade provided is taking into account the curriculum which has been taught and assessed across the entire year, not just Semester Two.

Understanding the Grading System

Is a ‘C’ grade good?

Yes, you should celebrate C grades as this indicates that your child has progressed to the desired level of understanding for his/her year level.

Is a ‘C’ grade just a pass like it used to be?

No, a C grade today, is the expected Achievement Standard for each year level and each Learning Area.

Does an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade mean my child is working a year or two above their current grade?

No, an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade means that your child is responding to the content taught to a deeper level. They may be thinking more critically about the content, which is a wonderful skill to demonstrate.

How are final grades determined?

Teachers collect numerous samples of work and assessments to determine the final grade. The grade is determined with the use of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s (SCSA) Judging Standards. For more information on this go to https://parent.scsa.wa.edu.au

Parents will be able to access their child’s report through our Parent SEQTA portal (SEQTA Engage). Those parents who do not have older siblings and who have not previously accessed SEQTA Engage or who are new to the school this year, will receive a ‘Welcome’ email which will give step by step instructions on how to set up your account and login. This email will be sent in the coming week. Please note that this email may end up in your ‘Junk/spam’ folder.

We will be offering a URStrong 'Language Friendship' Parent/Child Online Workshop next term on Tuesday, 20 August 6:00pm - 7:15pm. More details and links to follow.

The Premier's Reading Challenge runs from the 6th of May to 6th of September. You need to try to read as many books as you can in this time.

It's a competition right across the state and there's some great prizes - including a Nintendo Switch.
