PTO Updates
Raise Craze
Get Ready for Raise Craze!
The PTO's largest fundraiser of the school year is about to start!
- The district-wide goal is to raise $30,000 from January 29 - February 14 to support the programs and financial assistance our teachers and students rely upon.
- The PTO will use the Raise Craze fundraising platform to enable families to set up secure, custom websites where they request donations via email, text, and/or social.
- During the fundraiser, students pay those donations forward by completing self-chosen Acts of Kindness or service to othersโa great way to learn the value of gratitude and to spend time serving, not selling.
- The PTO is excited to bring the fun and give away prizes along the way, with a detailed lineup to be announced in late January. Watch for a PTO Raise Craze flier to be sent home with your student in late January for additional details. We also have a dedicated Raise Craze fundraiser page on our website under the fundraising menu that provides all the information you need to get started and stay connected.

What to Expect:
- Hands-on table activities focused on acts of kindness and community service.
- Opportunities to create positive messages and crafts to brighten someone's day.
- Ways to support local charities and student-led initiatives.
- Time to connect, collaborate, and build each other up as a school community.
- If a snowstorm cancels school, the event will be rescheduled for Wednesday, February 5, at the same time and location.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Read-Alouds ๐
Preschool and Kindergarten
During the month of January teachers and students in preschool and kindergarten will engage in a read aloud of The Skin You Live In by Michael Tyler. This book delivers an important message of social acceptance to young readers. Themes associated with child development and social harmony, such as friendship, acceptance, self-esteem, and diversity are promoted in simple and straightforward prose.
Conversation Starters:
- What kinds of skin are there?
- What can you do if someone makes fun of you because of the color of your skin?
- What can you do if someone makes fun of the clothes you are wearing or your food, or a cultural activity that you enjoy/celebrate?
- How can you help a friend who is being made fun of because of her or his skin color?
First and Second Grade
During the month of January teachers and students in first and second grade will engage in a read aloud of Big by Vashti Harrison. This book traces a childโs journey to self-love and shows the power of words to both hurt and heal. With spare text and exquisite illustrations, this emotional exploration of being big in a world that prizes small is a tender portrayal of how you can stand out and feel invisible at the same time.
Conversation Starters:
- What words are used to describe the girl in the beginning of the book? What do those words mean?
- Why do you think other people called the girl names?
- How does the girl feel when sheโs being called those words/names? How do you know?
- Why do you think the author called the book Big?
Early Dismissals
A friendly reminder that PK-2 early dismissals must occur prior to 2:45pm. Due to the complexity of our dismissal process and in order to ensure the safety of our students, we are unable to accommodate any early dismissals between 2:45 and 3:20pm.
