MESSAGE FROM HEADTEACHER
To bring our ninetieth school year to a close, it was fitting that we marked this momentous occasion with a most wonderful mass of thanksgiving. We were privileged to have Bishop John Sherrington preside over this service which ran across three venues (live streamed into two of these) for over 1000 pupils, staff and distinguished guests.
While this has very obviously been the highlight of the conclusion to our year, so much more has taken place this month that is to be celebrated, and that can be found in this final edition of our newsletter of the school year.
May I end by taking this opportunity to wish you all a happy and safe summer. I look forward to writing to you in the new school year, with news of many more exciting things happening.
Mr Ellul
Headteacher

90th Celebration Day
To celebrate a significant milestone this year of our school being open for 90 years, we put together a celebration day for our pupils to enjoy.
The 90th Anniversary Celebration Day is designed to encapsulate the diversity of the school and the Catholic principles that the school was founded on in 1934 by the Dominican Sisters. The day is to inform students of this history, to reflect on what it means to be a St James’ pupil
and to partake in activities that support their personal development.
A special assembly on the morning of Monday 15 July, was given as a thanks for the many blessings our school has received. We also heard from a member of staff who has been a part of our school community for over forty years - firstly as a pupil and then as a member of staff.
The day consisted of music performances, and fun activities for all to enjoy. Many of the activities had a focus on celebrating the rich diversity of our school.
The day was not only educational but also a joyful experience that strengthened our sense of community and shared history.
Thank you to all staff who supported with the logistics of the day.
90th Anniversary Mass
On Tuesday 16 Jul 2024, we celebrated a whole school Mass to mark both the Feast of St James and this special 90th anniversary of the school.
Bishop John Sherrington from the Diocese of Westminster came to celebrate the Mass. Special guests also included past Headteachers and teachers, school governors, representatives from the local authority, Dominican sisters, priests from our area, and vocations of the school; Local dignitaries have also been invited.
The celebration is a fitting way to commemorate 90 years of St James’ Catholic High School, founded by the Dominican sisters, whose motto, Veritas, meaning truth, still inspires our school values today. Despite the many changes and challenges over the years, our foundation of faith has remained steadfast and at this Mass, we had the opportunity to give thanks to God for the blessings of the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future with hope and joy.
