Attendance
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to remind you of the critical role regular attendance plays in your child's success at school. Consistent attendance not only helps your child keep up with daily lessons and assignments but also fosters a sense of responsibility and commitment to their education.
When students miss school, they miss out on valuable learning experiences that can't be fully recaptured. We understand that occasional absences are unavoidable, but we ask for your support in ensuring your child attends school regularly whenever possible.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making every day a day of learning for your child.
Warm regards,
Randy R. Muffley
Principal, Heart River Elementary School
Communication
As we embark on another exciting school year, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your continued partnership in making Heart River Elementary a supportive and nurturing environment for our students. Your involvement and communication are key to our success, and we want to ensure that we maintain open and effective channels for addressing any questions or concerns that may arise.
Open Communication is Key
Our goal at Heart River Elementary is to foster a positive and collaborative community where every student, parent, and staff member feels valued and heard. We understand that situations may arise where you have questions, concerns, or even conflicts that need to be addressed. In these moments, we encourage you to reach out to us directly. Whether it’s a classroom-related issue, a school-wide concern, or a question about policies and procedures, we are here to listen and work together toward a solution.
Why Direct Communication Matters
Social media can be a powerful tool for sharing information and connecting with others. However, it is not always the most effective way to resolve concerns or address conflicts. Discussions on social media can sometimes lead to misunderstandings and may not provide the complete picture of a situation. We believe that direct communication is the best way to ensure that your concerns are heard and addressed in a timely and constructive manner.
Steps to Resolve Concerns
1. Start with the Source: If your concern is related to a classroom or a specific situation involving your child, please begin by contacting the teacher or staff member involved. They are often the best resource for resolving issues quickly and effectively.
2. Reach Out to Administration: If you feel that your concern has not been fully addressed after speaking with the teacher or staff member, please do not hesitate to contact our school principal directly. We are committed to working with you to find a solution that is in the best interest of your child and our school community.
3. We’re Here to Help: Whether you prefer a phone call, email, or an in-person meeting, we are available to discuss your concerns and work together to find a resolution. Our goal is to support our students and families in every way possible.
Building a Stronger Community Together
By choosing to address concerns directly with the school, you help us create a stronger, more unified community. We are dedicated to providing a safe and positive environment for all our students, and your cooperation in maintaining open lines of communication is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Together, we can ensure that Heart River Elementary remains a place where every student can thrive.

Full Service Community Schools
Hello families of Heart River Elementary, I am Sherry Leavitt your Full-Service Community Schools Site Coordinator. A Full-Service Community school is a public school that partners with various community organizations and agencies to provide a wide range of services to students, families, and the surrounding community. My goal is to address not just academic needs but also the social, emotional, health and overall well-being of students and their families. We support families by removing the barriers to accessing services, strengthening family-school relationships, resource coordination, Academic and Enrichment opportunities and support for all parents and caregivers. I look forward in building a relationship with all of you this school year.
Check out the HRE website for more info on resolving student conflict
IPADS and Chromebooks
As we start a new school year, please keep in mind the following information regarding school-issued devices. Kindergarten - 2nd Grade are issued iPads, while 3rd - 5th Grade utilize Chromebooks. We repeatedly go over how to properly use and carry devices in school, so children are aware of PAWS device expectations.
- Please make sure that your child has headphones for classroom use, as these are not issued by the school. Headphones must be NON-Bluetooth with a regular corded plug. Headphones are essential to classroom learning and test-taking.
- If a device, or any part of it, requires repair due to the negligent use and/or intentional damage by a student, all repair and/or replacement costs will be the responsibility of the student and their parent(s)/legal guardian(s). The district will have the damage(s) repaired or replaced and an invoice will be sent home from Heart River.
- Examples of common damages that we see include, but are not limited to: cracked, broken, or scratched screens; broken or lost cases; damaged keyboards and missing keys; stripped, broken, or lost charging cords.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application
As you know, all school breakfasts and lunches will need to be paid for by families this year. If you haven't had a chance to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch Application, please do so. Heart River's free and reduced numbers are important to our school district for the calculation of foundation aid, Title I allocations, e-rate for technology, and other grants. If interested, please complete THE APPLICATION and turn it in to the front office.
Read-A-Thon
Heart River Elementary has decided to hold a Read-A-Thon this year!
Read-A-Thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
Our Read-A-Thon starts Monday September 9, 2024.
Follow the Read-A-Thon instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/323736323537/1 and following the simple instructions.
