Weekly News, Updates, and Opportunities from SRMS
A Message from Dr. Ortiz, Principal of Sandy Run
Good afternoon, Sandy Run Families,
I hope that your Winter Break has been off to a good start and that you have been able to rest and enjoy time with friends and family. With a few quiet days in the office, we have been able to reflect on the unofficial first half of the 2023-24 school year. The first few months have been filled with many highlights and successes (and a few expected bumps in the road). Whether 2023 matched your expectations, or if you felt that there were improvements to make, at Sandy Run we capitalize on both of these outcomes as a springboard to a successful 2024. If students found success in 2023, that means they have learned strategies, routines, and skills that are productive and should be repeated in the future. If 2023 fell short of expectations or if we were met with frustration, then it's an opportunity to grow, learn from mistakes, and try a new approach in 2024. Either way, we are better off as a result of the experiences we have gone through. That resilience, perseverance, and commitment to continuous growth are part of who we are as a school community and what we try to instill in our students each day.
When students return to school in 2024, we will hit the ground running. There will be a few weeks left in the second marking period; 8th grade students will begin discussing their transition to Upper Dublin High School; all grades will be meeting with their school counselors for some very important guidance lessons; there will be volunteer opportunities for Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service; musical rehearsals; winter sports; and so much more. While we are enjoying a few more days of a quiet Winter Break, the school is very much looking forward to returning in 2024 and welcoming our students back to the building. We know that transitions back from long breaks can be difficult for some students (and adults), and so the more routines and preparation as the break draws to a close, the better chance for success for all of us to enjoy. As a reminder, schools will reopen on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Until then, I hope you and your family have a very nice break and enjoy the end of 2023. Take care and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Dan Ortiz
Students Dress as a Staff Member
On the last day of school before winter break, many students dressed as a teacher or staff member. Here, two eighth grade students dressed up as Mr. Furlong and Mr. Pickford - they looked great and enjoyed some good laughs together!
UD Choir visiting schools
Special thanks to Mr. Arnold and members of his choir who visited each school on the last day of December to offer some winter cheer and songs. The students sounded great and is a credit to their hard work and learning from Mr. Arnold.
Teachers Dress as Students!
Just as students dressed as staff members on the last day of school, many teachers returned the favor! Ms. Tofel looks the part with her SRMS hoodie, crocs, headphones and more! It was great that staff and students were able to smile and enjoy each other after so much hard work in the first few months of the school year.
