Principal's Update
Thank you for your participation in conferences this week! It was a joy to connect with you about your child's progress this year. I’m proud of how many Kenwood students have demonstrated typical to aggressive growth from fall to winter. I attribute this to our excellent staff and community partners, as well as to our students’ tenacity, curiosity, and connection to their personal growth goals. We’re grateful for your partnership and support each and every day. It makes a difference in the lives of all our kids!
I expect to receive Kenwood’s 2024-25 budget allocation around March 1. I’ll share budget information with you in early March so that you’re aware of changes in programming and staffing for the upcoming academic year. I’ve just heard from Student Placement that letters from the first placement lottery will be mailed and emailed today, so keep an eye out for that information if you’re wondering about kindergarten and 6th grade placements in particular!
Please encourage your children to read before and after school and to keep track of their minutes on their Read-a-thon Calendars! I Love to Read month wraps up on Wednesday, Feb. 28. We thank you in advance for supporting Kenwood’s commitment to literacy and celebration of books, and we deeply appreciate your financial support, which permits us to offer the residencies and programming that spark innovation, creativity, and cultural understanding.
Reminder: No School on Friday, March 1
There's no school next week Friday, March 1. We'll see students on Monday, March 4!
2-3 Concert: Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. 🎵
Dear Families and Caregivers of 2nd and 3rd graders:
We are so excited to sing and perform for you on Thursday, March 7. The kids have been working hard to learn their songs. The 3rd graders will also play their recorders for you!
The concert will be in the gym and we will begin right at 6:30 p.m. It should last no longer than 45 minutes. Hopefully this will give you time to come home after school, eat something and change into something that students like to wear for special occasions.
We hope to see you there! Please contact Sue Pehrson with any questions.

Pajama Day: Thursday, Feb. 29 💤
Our next Spirit Day is Thursday, Feb. 29 (Leap Day!). Stay comfy and show your Kenwood pride by wearing your favorite pajamas to school that day.
Lunchroom Volunteers Needed 🥪
Can you volunteer in the Kenwood lunchroom on Thursdays?
Volunteers help students open milk cartons and wrappers, support positive interactions among students by having conversations with and among our young Woodchucks, pass out napkins and utensils, and help clean the tables before the next group of students enter the lunchroom.
Please sign up for a shift here. If you have any questions about lunch volunteering or would like to come on a different day, please reach out to Kelly Henry at kellybhenry@gmail.com. Thank you!
