Marty's Minute
The best part about this holiday season is that we can honor one of the most critical parts of this district: you. Thank you for putting your heart, soul, and time into your job. We appreciate everything you bring to the table to help our students succeed! May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and time off with your friends, family, and loved ones!
For many, Thanksgiving is a holiday spent sharing time with loved ones and giving thanks for all we have.
This holiday allows us to bring history to life and acknowledge that Thanksgiving isn't a celebration for everyone. In particular, some Native Americans honor this day as a National Day of Mourning, and others celebrate by gathering with families and friends.
Carmen Watson-Charles, PASD's Native American Liaison shares, "As a Native American Indigenous Indian, my family looks forward to gathering and cooking our favorite dishes in celebration of each other. Traditionally, Tribal Nations gathered around this time of year to feast, celebrate the end-of-year harvest, and welcome the winter season."
We honor that not all students, staff, and families celebrate Thanksgiving and recognize the importance of teaching and learning about Indigenous experiences and heritage. However your family honors or celebrates this day, we invite you to take some time to learn more about the tribes local to the area where you live. For Port Angeles, we are on the traditional lands of the Coast Salish people, specifically the Klallam tribes. We thank these caretakers of this land, who have lived and continue to live here since Time Immemorial.
We are grateful for our school community, government-to-government partnership with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and our district's bright future for all students.
PAHS DECA Delivers Thanksgiving Meals
Each year, PAHS DECA students fundraise, collect donations and assemble the items for Thanksgiving Baskets for families across our district. This year, they put together 35 total baskets and delivered them to all elementary schools, Seaview, and a family at Stevens.
Below are some incredible students who dropped off 10 Thanksgiving turkey dinner baskets for Roosevelt families!
Students from left to right are Isabelle Pecoraro, Josie Wood, Colton Romero, Andrew Halberg, and Josiah Gooding.
JFFA Community Survey
They aim to create greater access to the arts and make this community even more vibrant.
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey so that they can better serve your needs. Let’s create something beautiful together: https://jffa.org/survey/
I want to give Kudos to Stevens Middle Schools' attendance secretary Allie Schroeder. She is one of the first faces people see when they walk into our building, and everyone is welcomed with a smile. Attendance is an extremely challenging job and is often VERY hectic. Allie has the ability to remain calm under pressure and treat everyone with kindness and empathy. Her superb organization helps our school run extremely smoothly! Stevens Middle School appreciates Allie!
