Rossi Owls W.I.S.E. Words 2025
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Happy February! We’re already off to a great start in 2025, and February brings so many exciting opportunities for learning, growth, and connection at our school.
This month, we celebrate Black History Month, honoring the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout history. In classrooms, we’ll engage in activities, stories, and discussions that inspire inclusivity, respect, and an appreciation for diversity.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’ll also focus on the importance of kindness, empathy, and building strong friendships. Whether through small acts of kindness or sharing thoughtful words with peers, February is the perfect time to reinforce these values at home and in school. Additionally, Random Acts of Kindness week is February 17 - 21, 2025.
Finally, as the weather remains chilly, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. We want everyone to stay healthy, warm and enjoy fresh air safely.
Thank you for your continued partnership in creating a nurturing environment where our students can thrive. Let’s make this February a fantastic month of learning, growth, and love!
Love,
Carmella Heer, Principal

W.I.S.E. (We Inspire Someone Everyday)
On January 9th, Rossi had its monthly WISE assembly for rewarding the sunny trait of Optimism and introducing the mighty powerful competencies of Encouragement/Critical Thinking. Mrs. Cristelli was awarded the most Optimistic Staff and was our WISE GUY!
Miss Ellen Olbrich was our remarkable superhero this month. She is a fierce young and determined woman who has learned to deal with being diagnosed with diabetes at an early age of 18 months old. She spoke of how much she has learned to deal with and overcome while still being successful in everyday life. She lives life to the fullest and is an incredible student and athlete. She spoke to the students encouraging them to never give up and to help encourage others to do the same!
80th Day of School!
Rossi Owls took a trip back in time to celebrate the 80th day of school in true ‘80s style! From neon colors to scrunchies and funky sunglasses, we rocked the day with some major retro vibes. Here’s to a totally tubular 80th day and many more fun memories to come!
90th Day of School
Our Rossi Owls are soaring as we celebrate the 90th day of school!
From learning new skills to building friendships, these past 90 days have been filled with growth, curiosity, and achievement. Here’s to more wisdom, more fun, and more success as we continue our journey this year!
🎯 H.O.O.T. Hour Highlight 🎯
Today’s H.O.O.T. Hour was all about sharpening our Critical Thinking skills—one of the key competencies in our Portrait of a Graduate framework!
Our students and staff dove into activities that challenged them to analyze, evaluate, and problem-solve in creative ways. From tackling real-world scenarios to engaging in thought-provoking discussions, the room was buzzing with curiosity and determination.
Critical thinking is more than just a skill—it’s a mindset that empowers us to approach challenges with confidence and innovation. We’re so proud of how our learners embraced the process today!
Classroom News
Happy Lunar New Year! We had so much fun celebrating & learning about the Chinese New Year this afternoon. We tasted food, enjoyed a read aloud, talked about the traditions in Chinese culture, and made our own lanterns in honor of the “Year of the Snake!” Thank you so much to Leon’s family for donating some of the food for our class to try!
Mrs. Bellamy - ESL Class
Mrs. Bellamy’s ESL classes had a blast celebrating the Chinese New Year! Students learned new vocabulary, explored the Chinese Zodiac, and discovered the fascinating Legend of Nian. They were thrilled to celebrate with their peers, who wore beautiful traditional clothing! This year is the Year of the Snake, and students enjoyed a fun, hands-on snake activity tailored to their grade level. A huge thank you to Ikura Sushi for donating fortune cookies to sweeten the celebration! It was a truly special time learning about this vibrant culture and its traditions.
Mrs. Higinbotham's 2nd Grade Class
Mrs Higinbotham’s class had some fun in Science. They brought the snow inside and discussed snow as a solid and as it melts a liquid- then explored the property of color by painting the snow with watercolors! Fun time working in groups together!
Safety Patrol
Our Safety Patrol members have started the second half of the year with new posts and a renewed commitment to keeping our school safe and welcoming. As we look ahead to spring, we’re excited to begin planning engaging activities, including our upcoming literacy event, Read-a-Palooza! Stay tuned for more details on this fun-filled celebration of reading.
In February, we will also be raising awareness for diabetes, learning about its impact, and supporting health initiatives throughout the month. We’re proud of our Safety Patrol for leading by example and making a positive difference at Rossi School!
Congrats to our gold badge winner for the month of December, Arianna Ehrke and January, Johann Carreon-Morales.
