Hello, Schweitzer families.
March brought us lots of excitement at Schweitzer! We celebrated Read Across America and Literacy Week and welcomed guest readers from family members to staff from the Administration building. We even had a festive Dr. Seuss Door Decorating Contest among the classrooms to win a pretzel party. We had spirit days during Literacy Week and even saw The Cat in the Hat in the building! Above is a pic of our 'Oh the Places You'll Go' Spirit Day. SO MUCH FUN!
I encourage you to attend the STEAM Expo happening on April 4th. We have our own students and staff presenting, and there will be hundreds of cool exhibits and stations to visit. Come check it out and learn something new!
PSSA assessments are happening in the month of April and May for third and fourth grade students. Parents, please be mindful of the PSSA dates provided and make sure your student is well-rested and ready to perform their best. Teachers will be reviewing basic test-taking strategies and they will also be shown how to use the online tools for the assessments. A newsletter will go to third and fourth grade parents outlining everything you need to know. We appreciate your collaborative efforts and encouragement to help our students perform their best.
I hope you are enjoying Spring Break.
Wishing you and your family a relaxing Easter holiday!
Dr. Amy Orlando
Principal

St. Patrick's Day Spirit Day!
St. Patty's day brought lots of Lucky fun to Schweitzer including a leprechaun that made his way through classrooms and a "March" of first grade students going through the hallways with Mr. Wells. We hope the Luck O' the Irish was with you!
Emergency Safety Drills at Schweitzer
Albert Schweitzer Elementary School conducts monthly Fire Drills as a preventive measure to prepare for a real emergency. We also routinely practice Lockdown Drills and other emergency drills such as a Hold, Secure, and Shelter to practice scenarios if we were to experience a real emergency such as a weather alert or an intruder alert. Teachers review with students prior to drills so they know what to expect, and the staff works collaboratively to account for all students and staff through an app as if it were a real emergency. We appreciate everyone's dedication to the safety of our school community.
NSD Title I Newsletter
As a Title I school, it's important that we keep families and our school community well informed about activities and important information related to Title I. Please enjoy the latest Neshaminy School District newsletter from Ms. Kim Maurizi, Special Programs.
1st Grade Artwork Displayed at Starbucks Oxford Oaks-Reception April 2nd
First grade students at Albert Schweitzer Elementary have been learning about different genres of art including portraits, landscapes and still life. For their still life project, students looked at Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflower series and created their own sunflower still life in his style. Students explored the Element of Art texture while creating this project and utilized both real and implied texture to add details to their still life. Students worked with a variety of media including collage materials and oil pastels. Each student in the entire first grade class is represented in a show at the Oxford Oaks Starbucks in Yardley, PA. The show is on display through April 5th. We hope you will stop by to enjoy the work.
A reception is planned for students Tuesday, April 2nd

Read Across America Spirit Week
We celebrated reading during Literacy Week at Schweitzer. Whether wearing crazy socks for 'Fox in Sox' or wearing red and blue for 'One Fish, Two Fish,' students and staff recognized Dr. Seuss and many great authors and genres to celebrate all things books. The Cat in the Hat was even spotted in the building!

Book Tasting Event in Fourth Grade
The students in Ms. Nicholl and Mrs. Dupoldt's classes participated in their first "Book Tasting" of the year. Students visited different tables in the classroom cafe. Each table was designated a different genre complete with a stack of books. Students "tasted" the books by reading titles, the backs of books, chapter titles, the first few pages, as well as paid attention to the covers and authors. At each table they selected a book to rate. At the end of their dining experience, students had a bookmark with a list of their top 2-4 books.

The Harlem WIZARDS Visit Neshaminy-Mr. Wells Represents!
The Neshaminy Education Foundation hosted the Harlem Wizards at Neshaminy HS on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Mr. Wells was part of the NSD Staff team that went up against the Harlem Wizards. Mr. Wells ROCKED IT and made us proud!
This fundraising game has become a perennial Neshaminy favorite, drawing hundreds of kids and their families from across the District for a night of basketball skill, comedy and entertainment. This event raises thousands of dollars for the NEF, which supports their classroom / school grant program and scholarships for graduating Neshaminy HS seniors. Thank you for your support of the NEF and the children and families of Neshaminy!
